Years ago I found a mod here for SH3 that enabled you to man/fire the deck guns in REASONABLY bad weather. All I can find are mods to do the same in SH5. I am looking for the mod for SH3 v1.4

If anyone can give me a steer to this mod - please advise with a link. I would be grateful.

CHEERS !!

BTW I do see the mod for this purpose for GWX3. Looking for SH3 1.4b mod

Don't know of a mod but its simple enough to do yourself. Just open the sub you want to use .cfg file, scroll down a bit to the "Properties" section.
There, simply raise the max wind speed number in the "StormConditions" line to whatever desired. The gun will be manned at wind speeds below that number.
Sub .cfg files are found in path data\submarine\subx, etc.
Your crew will also only wear their storm gear at weather above these numbers, so if set to high they'll never wear their gear if that matters to you.
I imagine if you look at the GWX mod you'll see this is all it does.
I have no interest in either the flak or deck gun ever being manned, but I do have an interest in my crew not being in silly summer clothes at any time in the North Atlantic, so I've lowered the max wind speed setting to 1 so they almost always have their gear on.

Thanks !

I see the DL link provided is for GWX. I can back up my original and give it a shot. I am running and looking for SH3 Vanilla 1.4b

Also saw the below

Where xx = Uboat type................

SilentHunterIII\data\Submarine\NSS_Uboatxx\NSS_Ubo atxx.cfg

look for this line:

StormConditions=9,0.1;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]

This is only an example - it means you can man the deck gun [and flak] up to wind-force 9. Also you can increase the value of rain intensity [the value after the comma].

IS A CERTAIN TYPE OF EDITIOR NEEDED TO DO THIS? At one point I remember editing these cfg files by using Wordpad ( EDIT - EXCUSE ME NOTEPAD) but when I open them now many of the characters found within are not alpha numeric. Some code characters etc.

Thanks !!!

Notepad will open and have readable the .cfg files. Should be able to simply double click on them. If it isn't with yours, not sure what the problem is.

First of all there is the confusion about what constitutes a storm. Winds of 15 m/s? That's Beaufort 7, roughly 30 knots, and waves 4 meters high. The game doesn't allow for anything higher than that, but with SH3 Commander you can set the wave height so it can be double what it normally is in the game, reflecting 30 m/s winds and 11 meter waves.

You can modify the state for gun use yourself. Go into the folder Data/Submarine/ the u-boat you want to change. Scroll down to this part(I chose the Type VIIb, but it's the same for any boat):

[Properties]
PeriscopeDepth=12;meters
SnorkelDepth=10;meters
CrashDepth=70;meters
MaxDepth=300;meters
SurfaceDepth=5.8;meters
TorpLaunchMaxDepth=20;meters
StormConditions=7,0.1;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]

I changed mine to look like this:

[Properties]
PeriscopeDepth=13;meters 12.5
SnorkelDepth=13;meters 12.5
CrashDepth=63
MaxDepth=500;meters
SurfaceDepth=8;meters
TorpLaunchMaxDepth=20;meters
StormConditions=11,0.4;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]

Now my crew can man the guns in winds up to 11 m/s. I'll man flak gun in that maelstrom, but the deck gun is right out.

You can set yours to 15 if you want, but bear in mind that the clothes are tied to it as well, and they'll never put on their wet-weather gear.
