A loss for the world of motor sports. Sabine Schmitz, nicknamed Queen of the Nordschleife, has lost her race against cancer at the age of 51. Her fury on the Nordschleife track was legendary. They did not call the track for no reason "Sabine's kitchen". On this track she was a force of nature.

She was the first women to win the 24 hours race on the Nordshcleife in 96, and then again in 97, finally won the Nürburgring Long Distance Championship in 98. Her knoweldge and racing skill on this one track was absolutely outstanding. She knew it inside out by every square inch.

And a very likeable person, if you ever saw er on TV. She never turned out the star, but always stayed kind and modest.

One of the very few names in motorsport I paid attention for.

See her outclassing, no: destroying the whole racing field in just one lap. Later breaking points than the others. Unusual racing lines in parts of the track, even for rain. An exceptionally fast car (her own racing team).

Oh my god, the queen is dead long live the queen.

The queen of the Green Hell, (Nurburgring).
"I've lapped the Nurburgring in ten minutes and eight seconds."
"That's pretty good! What were you driving - a BMW or a Porsche?"
"No, a diesel Ford Transit van."
