View Full Version : Anyone here have COVID?

I’ll start
On 25 Feb, I started with the most minor of coughs. Barely annoying. On 26 Feb, I received my first COVID vaccination. Upon returning to my office, I was informed that we were shutting down due to a possible COVID exposure. My Director is taking this very seriously. During that weekend, I was informed that several members of my office had tested positive for COVID. On Tuesday, 2 March, I also was tested positive for COVID, but the only symptom I had was this minor cough. I was able to work (TW) that week, with no problems.
The following week, my primary COVID symptom kicked in. Profound Fatigue. For those who have never been inflicted with Profound Fatigue, it can be difficult to imagine how it is. Basically, it is an inability to perform any type of voluntarily action. I had experienced short periods of Profound Fatigue when I had had the flu, but for COVID, I experienced two full weeks of this.
For example, one day, I spent 20 hours straight laying in the same position. Normally, I can’t spend more than 6 hours in bed before things starting to hurt.
Unfortunately, one of the results of Profound Fatigue is that you can’t eat. You want to eat, but simply do not have the energy to physically eat. One time, I was feeling very hungry. I was sitting on my couch with a container of protein drink in front of me. All I had to do was reach out and open the container and drink. That simple operation took over 20 minutes. This type of debilitating fatigue starts a vicious cycle of not eating, thereby causing more weakness compounded by the weakness of COVID. Not good.
Walking the dog was an exhausting experience. I was slowly walking down to the end of our block like I was 100 years old. To the end of the block and back was all I could manage and that resulted in collapsing on the couch for about an hour just getting by breathing under control.
I consider myself pretty lucky in that I only had a minor case and the only real symptom was the Profound Fatigue.
Then around 11 March, it ended. The fatigue stopped as quickly as it came. I am still feeling tired and weak, but 100% better. I am on antibiotics for the lingering cough and that’s almost gone.
I hope to get back to work on 22 March when my office opens up again.
This was, by far, not the worst illness I had experienced. But it was pretty un-fun.
I go in for my second COVID vaccination tomorrow and on Thursday I have another COVID test.
Anyone else experience the fun of COVID?
That's horrible, seems you're on the mend now though, I truly wish you all the best for a speedy recovery. :yep:
Cheers.

Watch out for yourself! And be prepared for late symptoms even after months. They do not always happen, but happen anything but rarely. Overplaying your energy levels at work because you think you must compensate for your colleagues staying ill at home, is not a good idea. Manage your reserves.
That is sound advice for every desease and job, btw. That one feels one can go "all steam" again does not necessarily mean that it is always a good idea to do so immediately.
I wish you a good recovery.

Wow! Really throw you for a loop. I have not gotten COVID(thankfully) but a family of 3 I know all got it. They were out of work for 3 weeks straight. All just wiped out from the virus. I'm glad you are on the mend!

You did not mention this before, hoping you get completely well soon, without those pesky after effects that are sometimes happening.
Since you got the vaccination and feeling better it should be ok now, but be careful and hold back for some more days, this covid is a beast.
Some friends being in a karate sport club also got covid last year, two of them still have difficulties to breath and are physically very weak after half a year.

Sorry to hear that Platapus hope you can continue to improve and get back to work.
Did they pay you or just on your own for being out sick?
I had the same symptoms last year for 6 weeks, but somehow kicked it.
Still waiting for my first shot while my ex-wife gets her second shot tomorrow (she's rich by her 2nd husband though) :hmmm:

Fortunately, I only had to take one week sick leave. The rest of the time I was on Telework status.
At my organization we were on an alternate week schedule, one week in the office and one week at home TW.
TW sucks. :(

Sorry to learn of this but happy you are on the mend.
A family of three living a couple of hundred yards away from me all died within two days of each other.

Fortunately, The Frau is about a week behind me, although her symptoms were a lot more severe. So we were able to take care of each other.
On Monday we celebrated our 25th... with COVID. LoL

Hope you all get well soon. I think I may have had it March of last year, but that was before any testing was available. My mom got it last October and I went down to Florida to care for her. About five days afterwards I had fever and a watery nose for two days but no other symptoms.

The Frau, being the overachiever that she is, has just been diagnosed with COVID for the THIRD time!!!
She has all her shots and boosters. For Thanksgiving she visited her sister who is, unfortunately dying of cancer. Her family was visiting her for what would most likely be her last Thanksgiving.
It turned out that two of her sister's kids are antivaxers but they showed up unmasked too. :o
Seriously, your mother is dying of cancer and has pretty much NO immune system due to the Chemo but you still show up unmasked. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!
Well this turned out to be a spreader event. The Frau was diagnosed with COVID about three days after coming home. We later found out that the entire group, including the cancer patient also have COVID. We have not gotten any updates about the sister.
Fortunately, The Frau's symptoms were pretty minor. Coughing, headache, nausea. She shook it in about a week or so.
Than came Christmas. We had her local family over at our place. Everyone was vaccinated and some had the booster.
Turned out that this was also a spreader event. The Frau tested positive for a third time. The rest of her family are also positive.
Unfortunately, this time her symptoms are pretty bad. Not bad enough to go to the hospital, but bad enough that we have an admittance plan in case. Fever, coughing, chest pains, pretty crappy.
(knocking on my head) Fortunately, I have remained symptom free during these last two infections. So I can do what I do best -- take care of the woman I love.
So we will be spending NYE together and hopefully she will be fast asleep early today. Sleep is what she needs.
This COVID crap ain't going away. :nope:
Even with both shots and the booster, some people can still get it. Gotta keep those masks and social distancing going. :yep:
Happy 2020 Too. :o Same [stuff] Different Year.
All the best mate, I hope you stay free from it and the ladies get well soon.:yep:
Cheers and hopefully a happy new year. :hmmm:

Best wishes. Isolate - and also keep other people actively away from yourself, too, I mean alos outside the quarantine time. Obviously some of them are not the brightest lights out there. You are lucky to be vaccinated, your wife as well. If she caught it three times, God knows how it would have ended for her if being unvaccinated. Good luck!
Hang in there my friends you will overcome it once again-thanks to the vaccine.
It's not the same strain you have been infected with-it has been different for each time.

I only had one Moderna shot and caught the VID about two months later.
From my own experience I couldn’t really function and attribute much of that to a lose of appetite which made me weaker, it just never came to mind to eat anything. SO make sure she does. When I finally did I started getting better then I had a high fever and I slept for almost two days after which I was ready to take on the world.
Being the over achiever and on the go she may have never completely shook the virus. So keep her on a leash and make her get her rest and good eats. I’m sure she’ll be able to shake it in a week or so.

Sorry to hear of your wife's issues, Platapus. Hopefully you are both in contact with her primary care physician and let them know if her symptoms become worse. It's beyond belief that your sisters nieces / nephews didn't care enough about their mom and your wife and family to mask up.
In my honest opinion, this may well be the new normal, with regards to Covid infections.
I hope your wife gets better, Platapus. As I'm sure you already know, make sure she eats and gets plenty of rest as Rockstar said and also juices and fluids to keep her hydrated.
All the best.
Best wishes to you and your wife Platapus.
Best wishes and a fast recover for you both!

You should pay a visit to the sister's kids. :hmmm:
Either that or make tiny donations in their name to charities that they would hate and provide ALL of their contact information. The RNC is pretty good about bothering you for the rest of your life if they find out that you gave something to a candidate. :wah:

She seems to be getting better, but is still a very sick lady. :wah:
But at least she does not seem on the verge of going to the ER.
She says that this time was worse than the first time she had COVID.

Sorry to hear your wife has it again. Glad she is coming around. Me and the missus got it over Christmas. My symptoms cleared up in about 5 days. My wife's lingered on for about 8 days. To be honest, I have had head colds there where worse. I experienced headache, sinus was a bit off but not like a full blown cold were snot it flying. Some dry cough. No sore throat or fever. Very mild overall.

Currently have it, for the second time. First time was like a intense flu, I was fatigued and had rather intense nausea and diarrhea. Took about two weeks to get over it. This past Thursday I woke up feeling strange, found out I have a fever, which has went away, continued to feel fatigued. Talking 12 straight hours of sleep, still feeling tired.

Indeed. I've been hearing that the flu and colds can give a person a false positive on a covid test.

Yeah, how do they tell and which strain it is? Can they tell under a microscope or do they use a DNA test? What happen to the other (original) strains?

That is true, for flu anyways, not sure about regular colds. Doctor and I discussed that but agree its COVID. Doctor also happens to be a great friend of mine, so I trust him. Since I have had the flu (ten years ago or so) and COVID previously, there is a difference, COVID is much worse. Given that the new variant is surging, the positive tests, and fact I was exposed to a infected person prior to falling ill, most likely COVID.

Last Sunday evening my Daughter and her man were over for supper. Great meal and company. Next day daughter is not well and gets tested and is positive. The rule here is if you are in close contact with a positive case you isolate for four days and get tested on day two and day four. Day two wife and I both test negative. Day four wife is positive and I am negative. Go figure. Anyway I suspect that I have it as well but other than a sore throat and cough we are not sick at all. Both of us are triple vaccinated. We now have to isolate for seven days and if there are no further symptoms we can get out of isolation.
I cannot express how much I hate this virus. :D

Thanks guys. We are really not sick. Wife is house cleaning like a mad woman and I am just trying to stay out of her way. :DJeeze! my wife is an inveterate frenetic house cleaner, always finding something to clean, polish, or dust(the window blinds I do-she's too short)...after which I hide in my filthy mancave!:03:  I seriously recommend robovacs; programmed from the phone, it takes a load off the chore list and the cat finds it interesting too. We've got two more dead here in tourist-oriented Napa (112 total of 20,804 cases)and the bride and I are going for a second booster. Masks R mandatory. I don't believe Covid is at endemic level yet...:hmmm:

11 days since tested positive. Most symptoms gone, but still incredibly fatigued. I am the type to sleep roughly 6-7 hours per night, since I first felt symptoms, have been sleeping 10-12 hours, smallest tasks such as cooking a decent meal, really takes me out. No other conditions etc, doctor says he has noticed a lot of COVID patients with extreme fatigue that lasts weeks, in some cases, a month or so. First time had COVID, had some fatigue but not to this level.

I wish there was a way to quickly sort out which flavor of covid you have.
I had it end of January, lasted 5 days, then gone. Really only felt bad for one day (ached all over, like I felt after I got the second shot) slept that off, then it was just a minor cold for me. Effects everybody different.

It really made the rounds in Feb. Kids all got it, vaccinated, very light symptoms and now recovered.
Several other people I know got it also, one passed away.
So far, my mother, sister, and I have not gotten it. I did have a sore throat and congestion in Jan but it lasted a day and I'm not sure it was anything.
I think we all agree we are now past the pandemic now, unless a new strain emerges. Vaccinated people can relax, this is going to be like the flu at this point.

Honestly said I do not know whether I have gotten it or not. Can't tell. If I got it, I have not felt anything.
And I think quite some people are like me.
As a matter of fact I have not caught the smallest or mildest bug or cold or anything since two years now. Nothing.

Not yet. Know quite a few who have. Different degrees of sickness. Some like a cold or less, others like a really bad flu.
