Have been playing SH3 for about 10 days with the GWX gold mod, and as you can imagine coming from flight sims and the arma world I have cocked up mightly and killed my crew and lost the sub on a number of missions.
Having said that, the game is a gem and when my torpedo's do hit and sink a ship, well even my crew cheer. A sincere thank you to all the modders and their hard work and to everyone who posts tips and video's to help us noobs get our sea legs.

Hi Queasystomach A warm welcome to Subsim your rubing shoulders with the great and the good here on Subsim theres a lot of helpful guys on here a few tips below


1. When playing the GWX Campaign and your at periscope depth search for ships and convoys manualy you can pick up ships/convoys 38kms away your sonar guy wont pick them up utill there almost in visual range.


2. When attacking convoys fire at your furthest target first then second furthest then the nearest target last so all your torpedos strike home within 10-15 seconds


3. When escorts pick you up and 3-5 of them are closing on you fast crashdive and hard to port or starboard as situation dictates then when the first escort drops dc's and the first one detonates lower your speed to 2knots and rig for silent running (Z Key) and do a 90 degree turn always try to point your stern at the escort so you are presenting a narrow profile to the escorts asdic i know that can be difficult when 3 plus escorts are circling you licking their chops but if your down to 160-200 meters you should be able to slip away at 2knts.


4. Spring 1941 onwards when leaving the the bunkers on the French coast ports as soon as you have enough depth under your keel get down to perscope depth and cruise at 3 knots until your clear the Bay of Biscay due to Allied Aircraft that are showing up more frequently only surfacing when its dark just to recharge your batteries.
