Hey guys, i recently got in the whole Uboat game genre and it got me realy hooked. Problem is that everybody seems to be of the opinion, that SE3 is king is this genre and so i wanted to get in on it too.

The YouTube series of Wolfpack345 was rather fun to watch, so i decided to copy his modlist, either his U-105 type IX Career or the more recent Type XXI Career.

I got the game in the U-Play version, for it seemed that steam would only lead to more problems. Yet i still got stuck rather fast and would realy appreciate some help - so thanks in advance for anything usefull i get.

For starters i tried following this guide

(Hope linking this is okay)
while ignoring the steam specific stuff and getting started on JSGME, Commander and Front End. All of that stuff seemed to work great and without much problems.
Next came GWX - and it pretty much already stopped at that point. I think i installed it correctly -> i created a copy through Front End of the Vanilla Version of SH3 with no mods installed or activated and ran the GWX installer over it. JSGME does show me the optional mods for GWX in that installtion, but whenever i start it - with deactivated optional mods or activated - it simply starts the vanilla version of the game. And i can't realy explain why that is.

So if anybody could help me, that would be great.
If anybody could maybe give me or link me to a somewhat comprehensible guide, in which at least similar mods are used like the ones i want to use, that would be beyond fantastic.

Don't use that program myself.

Did you try launching GWX by double clicking the SH3.exe in the correct folder?

Being new to adding mods, I'd be careful about copying Wolfpack345's list. He's been at it awhile and some of his mods require some experience to make them work without problems.
I'm not familiar with the Uplay version of SH3. What is your game install path ? If it is in "program files" etc. that is the problem. Hopefully someone who is experienced with Uplay will join in.
But in general, all that needs to be done is install the 1.4b version of the game NOT to the "Program files" path, (make a separate install folder on your hard drive, i.e., C:\SH3) then run the GWX installer.exe pointed to your game install path and it will then run as GWX.

I highly advise uninstalling completely and starting over.

Install a base to something like c:\SH3-stock, then using MultiSH3 to install a copy to c:\SH3-GWX (call the save folder something other than SH3). Run the GWX installer to this path, install the 4GB patch, run once, then start installing Mods one at a time.

If using SH3 Commander, make sure to tell it the correct path to your save games.

On pages 19 through 21 of the GWX manual there is a step by set sequence of installation. I HIGHLY recommend you follow it step by step.

Make sure you computer is free of what you previously installed, including in the Doc files.

Good Hunting.
