Up to February 2nd I was contentedly saving my stock SH4 v.1.5 games and everything was OK. This morning (February 3rd) I went to load up the most recent one and they had all vanished! I was about the re-install the game thinking that there had been some corruption of the files, when I accidently stumbled on the solution - the game is now saving them to a different place.
Before, they were being saved to an SH4 folder in C: Documents and now they are being saved to an SH4 folder in C but not to Documents. I am playing the Ubi (uplayer?) version.
If anyone else comes across this vanishing saves issue, the solution is to copy the SH4 folder in C: Documents to C. The game will then 'see' them

just a bunch of quick thoughts:
are you running a system optimizer?
does your antivirus run a system optimizer?
by chance, could someone on your computer have accidently dragged-and-dropped a higher-level folder out of its normal folder? (i've done that accidently)
great to hear that you were able to recover.
to answer your original question, no, i've never heard of this happening.

Not that I know of.
I don't think it is because I accidently moved the SH4 folder (though that was my first thought as well). The SH4 folder was still in the Documents folder where it was originally, but the game was no longer 'seeing' it there, as it is now saving to the higher level C: directory and looking there for the SH4 folder with the saved game files.
It is the downloaded game from Ubisoft Connect, and I notice that the game needs to connect to this site before running, which makes me think Ubisoft may have tweaked it in the background overnight? Odd, if so, as it is a rather old game now. Although I sorted it in the end, I though I would mention it here in case other people with this version of the game have the same problem and are about to re-install thinking that it is a corrupted software problem...

Think I worked it out eventually.
Windows Defender has suddenly decided that it is a dangerous thing for the game to write to the file SH4 in C: Documents, and so SH4 has created a new SH4 file to read and write to in the higher C: directory instead.
Thanks for your reply KaleunMarco!
Now why does the game put longitude before latitude? That bugs me a bit.

talk to the Romanian-Hungarian developers.
there are quite a few eccentric design and coding techniques that are used in SH4. Don't ask me to explain them.:03:
