recommend me a ship captain-type sim

Looking for a sim where I act in the role of ship or submarine captain. I played SH3 in the past, but was a bit put off by having to calculate all of the torpedo numbers myself. I feel like that's the crew's / officers' job. I like the level of command I have in some of the videos of Rule the Waves I've seen (and the graphics are sufficient), but I don't want to command an entire navy - just a ship or perhaps a few ships at most.

Can someone recommend me a game or game+mod that accomplishes this?

Also, looking for an OFFLINE / single-player game - do NOT want to play co-op / online.
