Hi, I've just installed Silent Hunter 4 after not playing the game for at least 8 years. The problem I'm facing are freezes/crashes which occur when I click on any sub control button during gameplay. It might happen after 5 mins or even close to an hour into the game. When the crash happens the screen goes black, fans start spinning at 100% and I need to shut off PC completely. It's the only game that does this so I'm fairly certain the system isn't at fault. I haven't installed any mods (yet), the only setting which I had to change in order to run the game was "Change settings for high DPI". Without it the game wouldn't start. I've tried using Large Address Aware but it didn't help. I'm considering installing virtual machine with either XP or W7 if I can't find a solution. SH3 ran just fine on the same PC with several mods.

Specs:

Win10
I5 9600k
16gb 3200mhz
RTX 2070

welcome back, pip.

couple of questions:
what mod set are you using? it helps if you post the JSGME Task-Export-To Clipboard mod set with your question.

are you using a 4 gig memory enabler such as Large Address Aware (LAA)?
this will alleviate a variety of issues that Kaleuns have encountered while playing SH4 under Win7/Win10.

it might be appropriate for you to refresh your memory by perusing Theberbsters hint guide. (https://subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=219029) i believe there is a link in there for LAA.

let's leave it there for the moment.

good luck!

I've capped fps to 60 and managed to play through 4-5 hours patrol. Some of these older games really don't like high fps. :salute:

Try reinstalling the game along with Large Address Aware. The current install may not have done so correctly.
