On the RADAR screen for every U.S. boat I have ever had there are 2 or 3 what I believe are range settings. Usually like 3,000 and 20,000 and a third one sometimes that says 40,000 that I assume are in yards even though it does not say anywhere. Then there is always another setting that says PREC that is to the left of the ranges and therefore would be the first setting.
My question is what does PREC stand for or mean?
And also while I am at it....
In SH4, late in the U.S. campaign (I always play as a U.S. sub Captain, and I also always play with Map Contacts ON.) you have the option to "purchase" an upgraded Air Search RADAR. I can't remember what it is called, but it replaces the Improved SD RADAR. This Air Search RADAR has the same ability as all the others do in that you can extend it up above the water while you are at periscope depth. However this AIR Search RADAR not only picks up airplanes, which it is suppose to do, but it also picks up all the surface contacts. This one RADAR now picks up everything, airplanes and boats alike, and all while I am at periscope depth, NOT RADAR depth. I checked several times that I was at periscope depth with the Air Search RADAR extended, and not at RADAR depth just to make sure.
My question here is, what's up with that?
Is this a function of playing with Map Contacts On? Later in the war did the two separate RADAR's share a single rotating receiver antenna? Or is this just some weird SH4 programing code thing that has no good explanation because there is none. Or is there some other reason?
Just curious.
