i cant seem to make an approach at periscope depth with the periscope down (except for collecting target data) without the escorts picking me up and the target ship starting to chamge course and run off leaving my attempt at setting up a solution in shambles.

Any tips? I am using WernerSobe basic method, the second video in sub skippers bag of tricks, still getting to grips with it

If you are a u boat, rule britannia.

If a US sub, what speed are you approaching at, and at what level are you playing at. The higher the level the more expert the escorts are. I always play at 'normal' which is, allegedly, the way it actually was. As my career progresses, the escorts become wiser.

If I try and approach at anything above 1/3 the odds are not in my favour. And when passing escorts to get into a convoy or fleet, I stay deep as long as I can. After selecting and firing, I go back down straight away before the escorts can react.

when you present questions like this to the group, it is best to post your playing config using JSGME Task-Export-to Clipboard and then paste it here with your question(s).

Ya gotta do like Elmer:

and as Red Devil suggests, do it deep when sneaking in, presenting the smallest profile possible. Even still, it's best to find a hole in the seam of the defense to "sneak" through, or wait for slightly rough weather, to help hide the "Shhhh!" of your electric motors, and the dingbat in the back that dropped the wrench!... "Fire One!" "Firing Tube One, sir!" "Third Class Seaman Dobbles in the water sir!" :salute:

Ha Ha, yes many a time you a sneaking in position, so far not detected and as you say one of the crew yells out confirming your last order.
Then the guy with the whistle shouting, "Relieve the watch."

I must admit though there have been times I was too busy planning my approach and for got to activate silent running till it was too late lol.
