How to improve early war escorts ?

Playing an early war career for once. Even in TMO, early war escorts offer little to no danger to a submerged sub. Want to make them somewhat competent. Attacking and not getting depth charged is rather anti-climatic. Setting skill to elit just makes them hawkeye on surface.

My thinking is just to change the early sonar as equipped to mid war sonar, would improve performance ? Any suggestions ?

you would also want to study Sim.Cfg in the CFG folder.
you may also want to manipulate the enemy Hydrophone and Sonar equipment but i cannot remember where that is stored.
then, there is the detection and explosive strength of sea mines and subnets. those files are in the \Library folder.
