I was wondering if I created a mission, is it possible to attach other vessels to the player sub/ship?

In other words, if the player was travelling from A to B with an escort and the player changed course to intercept the enemy could the attached escort follow as well?

We had this in Destroyer Command where you were the Flag Ship and you could set the formation of the convoy, where the flag went they followed.

I'm not very conversant with creating missions yet so thought I would ask the ones who were for their knowledge.

Unfortunately, no. You can "build" a SingleMission with the player sub as a group leader, and you can add ships to said group. However, it will not "Save" as such. If you instead make the submarine non-player controlled, the mission will save OK. You can then go into the file in a text editor and change the control of the sub back to the player, and the mission will show on the menu. However, your submarine is now "Unknown", and the scenario will not load.

My guess is that as soon as you go to dive, any surface ship will attempt to dive, and be destroyed... or it will not allow you to submerge, or whatever might happen. But I have tried multiple ways to get this to happen, and thus far, no success... It would be really nice to have destroyer escort when you leave Pearl, but alas, the only way to do it is to "guess" what the player might do as they leave... I have tried spawn triggers, which do function as intended, but if the player goes faster or slower than their escort... well, it can "look" rather odd - if they even go in the direction their "orders" tell them to... :haha:

Thanks Prop,

I have seen the 'Unknown' when I have been playing about tweaking things, mostly not knowing what I'm doing lol but trying anyway.

I mentioned something similar in another thread about you could 'attach' units to the player vessel in SH2.
You could be sailing along and have AI vessels a few miles away, it would be their task to join up with you because they were attached.
It worked well as long as you had open sea and no land in the way of their path for obvious reasons.

Such a shame really, in SH2 and DC we had those things yet even though the later versions of SH we lost a few good points that would have been enjoyable.

Talking of tweaking there is a mod for SH5 called Silent Fire, it is a modded version of the SF version for SH4.
Just out of curiosity I tried it out in SH4 to see what would happen, anyway it seemed to work with not crashes, at least on my PC anyway.
For those that don't know what SF is, it is a cheat mod that enables your sub to be in a kind of god mode, I know it won't suit a lot of players but it can be fun.
