Due to precautions of COVID 19, Two ships of the US Navy have broken deployment duration records when the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower and the USS San Jacinto have been at sea for 161 days, breaking the previous record of 160 days. These two ships will remain at sea until they return to Virginia later this year.

The 160-day record was set in February 2002 by the USS Theodore Roosevelt, early in the Afghanistan war. The previous 152-day record was set by the Eisenhower in 1980 during the Iranian hostage crisis.

Yikes! That's a lot of time to be on a ship without visiting a port.

Plenty of practice with UNREPS

Those poor sailors must be hungry for something most of are use to, uh? :yep:

FBM subs only go out on 90 day patrols with two crews to help carry the burden.

In fact one boomer just did a crew exchange at sea from an ocean going tug ...
The crew had been isolated for two weeks on shore before being taken out to the surfaced submarine of about 130 men and the off duty crew departed on the same ocean going tug.

Nobody cares about the poor sub not getting any rest. :hmmm:

How long did voyages last in the age of sailing ships? ;) And the food was much worse, I assume, and the work much heavier and dirtier, and the sleeping holes less cozy.

They say that the memory is the second thing to go when you get old
