However, on VIIcs for example (like the one that was captured), you had an analog gyroscope that was tied into the helm control.
The Navigator when they could do star/sun/landmark sighting when confident of their position, would zero out the gyroscope.
So, in the end the nav/waypoint tool built into the game represents things well assuming the Navigator could take a sighting each day. Off course in weather.... there would be drift if the gyro hadn't been zeroed out each day.
Interesting in the U-boat logs, each night they put in the actual location (after a sighting and record drift).
All in good fun. Hard work in the game. I guess you could control-click only on days that you had good weather to do a sighting?
