Hello,
I have researched this topic in the advanced search, and a lot of entries can be found, I continue to read them, but I don't think they relate to my current mods installed, so here I go:

I'm playing with Ralle's modsoup pack containing TMO + RSCDC (see modlist below).
After starting the American Campaign early in the war, January 1942, I have paid attention while in the bunker office to have a A-Scope 'rudimentary' air radar installed in my sub (but no surface radar).
After departing from Surabaya in Java, going away some distance I wanted to switch radar on with the lower menu button, but that's not possible, raising the antenna is possible but still I can not switch radar on or off. I can go to the radar station, I try to use the pictural buttons manually, I can change the range buttons, but not the on/off button, the radar screen remains black.
To be sure, I move to the sub management window and yes, the radar is installed.

Is this a TMO specific problem? (On the other side, my researches seem to confirm that subs didn't have radar in early 1942, but this may be wrong, if so the modders forgot to not offer the installation in the bunker for it at that date). Or maybe it will work anyway, albeit I cannot turn it on/off ?

I then started a new test campaign in late 1943, and this time both advanced air and surface radar were installed and can be operated, although it's not possible to switch off surface radar while air radar is on. Is it possible to switch them on/off separately?

Thanks very much to clarify this for me!

My modlist:
1.0 TMO_RSRDC_OTC
1.5_OTC_Realistic Scopes for 16 to 9 RSRDCv502
1.5_OTC_German PPI Screen
2.0 Ralles ModPack for TMO_RSRDC_OTC

As far as I know, the radar screens have only ever been for the surface radar. The air search radar never had a screen, and only displayed contacts on the map.

Thanks Razark, yes in fact I did a new search in the TMO manual, that's what I found and will answer my problems above:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SD Radar
Max Range: 26400 yards
Availability: 1941-12-01
An omni directional radar that could provide range, but not bearing of airborne targets, on an A scope
receiver. Due to limitations in SH4, this is not possible. SD radar contacts are not displayed on any
radar screen. The only way to see SD radar contacts, is to have map contact updates enabled. Your
radar man will notify you of SD radar contacts regardless.

Improved SD Radar
Max Range: 35200 yards
Availability: 1942-06-01
An improved version of the earlier SD Air search radar.

SV Radar
Max Range: 44000 yards
Availability: 1945-01-01
SD was later replaced by SV radar, which used a rotating directional antenna, and could give a range
and bearing on the target.

Note:
You can raise your air search radar antennae while at periscope depth by pressing the “ T “key. Doing
this is always a good idea before surfacing.

Note that OTC overwrites the TMO radar so the info in the TMO manual may no longer apply. You would probably have to look into the OTC mod for your answers.

Fully right Bilge, there are extensive OTC docs and very well done which I just went through. Also more pages about how the radar is supposed to work. And it works exaclty like that!

Thank you,
