Installing from Steam. Had FOTRSU up and running. Ran a campaign patrol, but hours of gameplay deep, my sub sank itself. Tried restarting from saves - not good. Tried new campaign. Repeatedly hung on the 'leave from port or from outside' screen. Decided to reinstall.

Uninstalled using windows uninstall.
Reinstalled from Steam, in same folder as previous install - different folder from Steam's regular destination. Ran LAA. Ran MPSH41.5. Ran JSGME, took snapshot, and loaded up FOTRSU. Ran game from Steam shortcut. Screen showed up, normal, in little 1024 x 768 box. Went to Options - Graphics. Game froze. Have tried running game directly from .exe file. Re-ran LAA and MPSH4. Noted that with the 'new' save folder from SH4 there is no .cfg file yet, as its a new save folder. Could this be part of the problem? BL: need ideas to try, or will go back and reinstall... again. <sigh!>

What you could try is a Steam "Validate game files" for the re-install, but be sure and move your MODS folder, MultiSH4, LAA and JSGME out of the game folder also, prior to that, else Steam will squish them... Be sure and select the DirectX v9.0c and the Windows Codecs if given the choice on the re-install.

Once Steam finishes, go into the game folder and press and hold the <Ctrl> key, and while holding that, press the <A> key. That will select all of the files in the folder. Right-click on any one of the selected files, and you'll get a pop-up Context menu. Left-click "Properties" at the bottom to select that. On the first "General" tab there, under "Attributes" will be a tick box for "Read-only". It will be like a "brown" color. Click on it to clear it, then hit either the "OK" or the "Apply" button. Select the choice for "All files and sub-folders". That will take a pinch to run, but will make all files write-able. Now do the MultiSH4 to create a new Save folder. If you use the same folder as before, be sure it is empty. Now do the LAA on the SH4.exe. Run JSGME and do your new snapshot. Bring in the files from your old MODS folder, preferably just the 100_FalloftheRisingSunUltimate, else you might end up with some odd looking stuff. Definitely leave all of the hidden JSGME ini files in the old MODS folder there. Now run JSGME to activate FotRSU. Try to run a Single Mission and see how it does. If that works, try the Campaign again.

You would not normally do a "Validate game files" through Steam, because it does restore the game back. You also want to make certain that you use the UBoat Missions start-up in Steam. That is the one for the v1.5 of the game. The Wolves of the Pacific is v1.3, which will not function correctly. For more info, refer to "Install Notes For the Various Versions of SH4 in Windows" pdf file in the Support folder of the mod, or in the game folders after mod activation. :salute:
