This problem has been cited for awhile ! Apparently win 7 has caused a rejection of commander which is a real bummer . Can anyone suggest a win 7 work around or suggest I load my game game on to my machine which run under win 8.1 ?? I have GWX 3.0 and commander.
How do you suggest I proceed. this win 7 bug is a real menace and am hoping for a life line here!
thanks

I am put out a SOS on this no help yet!!!! I have SH III win 7 and updated
commander
Question I am aware of conflict with commander and win 7
can I find a work around.
In my current state I am running SH III GWE right from my desk top
and it is ok but I notice that when in the main SH III menu it says loaded by commander (what does that mean??) however commander never can load in win 7 am I in some half sh III gwe mode and half commander mode????
I am confused I am having problems with crew management and medals
I have no easy way to change days a ports
What do you think I am dealing with in above situation?? Is there a fix???
First off, I presume you downloaded the SH3 Commander files from a reputable source? Like here, the download section?
SH3 Commander changes files and folders in it's own and the SH3 game root-folder. JSGME change files in the game's root folder as well. For that reason, it is best to NOT install Commander and the game in the default location inside c:\Program Files-something. Direct it to something like c:\Games\SilenthunterIII or similar for SH3 Commander. That avoids UAC popups and quarantined file-changes that break your intended modifications. (to start JSGME it comes with a UAC popup anyway on my system because I am non-administrator user)
You may also need to put an exception in your virusscanner software to prevent Commander getting blocked by it. And still Windows might warn you if it detects the program doing 'dangerous' things (Windows Defender Smartscreen window). But you can by pass it to start it anyway, if it shows a proceed button or link.
I have no personal experience with a Steam install, so you might need to search the forum for instructions on that. I know there are.

I'm wondering what the heck IS GWE?
Common abbreviation spelling error GWX, or Grew Wolves Expansion.

No idea. I have Win7 x64 with SH3 installed in C:\SilentHunterIII-GWA\ with GWX and multiple other Mods (the GWA is a 2nd install using alternate flotillas). I have SH3C installed inside that directory (with its own set of JSGME mods). Mine is working fine.
It would not at all surprise me if (in addition to installing in a \Program Files (x86)\ directory), he has forgotten to check the auto-rollback function and forgotten to define his SH3 install path within SH3C.
The other thing that might be needed is for him to take ownership of the entire install directory and all of the files. There are various places where you can download a script to automatically add this to the right-click in Explorer or you can manually edit the registry.
Of course - all of this assumes he is running as an admin when he installed SH3, GWX and SH3C...

Something else that comes to mind is the additional configuration files for SH3 Commander that are needed for it to work properly with GWX 3.0, but I'm not sure if that's the reason why you're getting that error.

We believe JohnLax's issue has been resolved (well so far). There was a error stating that Commander or SHIII was already running. Don't know the exact wording because we were on the phone, 60 miles appart. But basically the game would run, starting via SHIII icon but not via Commander program. Commander was almost useless. There were several SHIII entries shown already running in the TASK MANAGER, we ended those processes. Now all is working as should be. Jerry
