View Full Version : What are you going to do with your $1,200 stimulus check?

Mr Quatro
03-29-20, 03:39 PM
I'm staring to believe that most of us in the USA will get a stimulus check or better check direct deposit.

What are y'all going to do with your $1,200 minimum stimulus?

I think I'll improve my water system and perhaps increase my pantry keeping the rest in cash in case I need it later.

Coronavirus stimulus package: Who will get $1,200 checks and when will they be sent out?

https://www.bing.com/search?q=who+gets+the+stimulus+check&qs=FT&pq=who+gets+the+&sk=HS1&sc=8-13&cvid=525A659C60384CCC96001D77C7F8D639&FORM=QBRE&sp=2

One-time payments of up to $1,200 should start going out in the next three weeks to most Americans who file individual tax returns, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says. Those who file joint tax returns will get up to $2,400

Plus $500 per child

The payments will be sent via direct deposit to Americans who already have provided the Internal Revenue Service with their bank account information. For those who haven’t, the checks will be mailed.

It isn't sure that you will get 1200 $

I understand it will be based on your 2019 income. If you earned more than a set figure (I think $75K) you don't qualify for a check.

Unless you filed early before the virus crisis in 2020 then your tax return for 2020 will determine your stimulus check.

So if you made a lot in 2019 and the IRS knows it, but your filed early with a lot of ta deductions that put you in a lower bracket then you get the full $1,200 or $2,400 for joint filing for you and your spouse. :yep:

I went ATV riding last night. Managed to flip it and blew up my knee pretty good. Unless the swelling goes down by tomorrow morning I'll probably have to have a doctor take a look at it. That'll mean getting tested for the virus I am guessing.

In all reality, I doubt this will be "free money" so I'll probably come out of next year's tax return. I'll probably end up using it to pay bills so I have more of my regular money for.......mags, batteries, ammo etc :haha:

As I am considered "essential" and still actively employed (and even getting a bonus from my company for working during the CV-19 outbreak), if I do receive a check: I was thinking about either donating it to some worthy cause or using it to purchase goods which are sorely needed by other essential workers in my area. The latter being a more likely scenario, since I do have connections to the supply of such goods.

I have already used the connections I have to benefit some local essential personnel. And I would like to point out that I am one of those "deplorable" people who oppose big government. So, no matter how some choose to caricature us, it remains a fact that those who financially benefit the most from capitalism are also the biggest contributors to charitable causes.

I'm torn as I've always believed in delayed gratification, but you can't spend it if you're dead.

I brought my mother all the groceries she told me she needed tonight. As I was leaving tonight she came out of her bedroom to tell me she'll be needing milk tomorrow. Holy $#!+ she just doesn't get it! :/\\!! I am the sacrificial anode.

Thanks but no, I don't want money from the govt. Better to put it in a high yield savings account (https://www.marcus.com/us/en/savings/high-yield-savings) for emergencies.

In fact, if people were more responsible they would have 6 months of expenses saved* for things like this and we wouldn't be in such a mess, borrowing money we can never pay back, upending our economy and setting us on a slow march to national insolvency.

I don't know if the current management of Microsoft has carried on this Bill Gates' policy, but when Gates still ran Microsoft, he insisted the company have a reserve fund sufficiently able to support the company for a full year, even if it had no revenue during that period; that's one reason why Gates has been so successful...

Governments, at all levels, have a haphazard approach to planning for contingencies; some are woefully unprepared to deal with even the most minor of emergencies. The City of Los Angeles has a reserve fund of about USD $400 Million and, prior to the pandemic, the present and prior Mayors and City Councils were roundly criticized for refusing to spend the money on various projects; The same holds true for the the State of California; Under former Governor Jerry Brown and current Governor Newsom, the state has amassed a reserve fund of some USD $20 Billion; the fund was set up under voter approved state propositions and, fortunately, the State Legislature has very little say over the funds; there has also been criticism leveled at the Governor(s), with some Legislators, in the past, calling for GW Bush style 'rebates' to be issued to citizens, an idea resisted by the Governor(s); it would seem there is very little criticism now when the value of having fallbacks is so apparent...

Well, the fact that you used the "past tense" is a good start. Next I'd say:

Take a very long, very hot shower
Spray everything you own with Lysol™ (be careful with electronics)
Watch old westerns until you forget everything even remotely related to any SJW nonsense
Buy a large caliber gun, go to the nearest shooting range and unload a few mags
Drink a beer ... or twelve
Find some good looking women (preferably in the "fun zone" of the hot/crazy matrix)
Have them cook you a nice steak dinner
Bed them
Restore a classic muscle car and drive it like you stole it, periodically revving the engine for no reason other than the fact that it sounds effing awesome
Do something involving fire, explosions and a general waste of time
Go muddin'
Make new friends who can get you out of a jam because you overestimated your muddin' abilities
Tell long, boring stories about your misadventures to your new friends around a camp fire in the middle of nowhere.
...?
Profit

That should do it.

Eligible taxpayers who filed tax returns for either 2019 or 2018 and chose direct deposit for their refund will automatically receive a stimulus payment of up to $1,200 for individuals or $2,400 for married couples and $500 for each qualifying child, the IRS said Friday.

The first batch of stimulus payments promised to American taxpayers amid the coronavirus pandemic were direct deposited on Saturday, the Internal Revenue Service said.

"We know many people are anxious to get their payments; we'll continue issuing them as fast as we can," the agency tweeted Saturday evening.

On Monday, the Treasury Department said more than 80 million consumers will receive their payments this week.

On social media, some Americans said they'd received payments in their bank accounts, while others said they were eagerly awaiting the checks to land in their accounts.
