While trying to interpret a 'Radio Message' I was confused with the direction of convoy ...
"Bud 1940/12/01 -CONTACT. Large inbound convoy AL57 Course West. W:5 Sea: 4 MB 97."

West & inbound to Sydney or Halifax or East & 'inbound' to England ?

What does last bit mean - W(ind) 5 (knots), Sea 4 (metre swell), MB 97 (barometric pressure 9700 nha) ??

Also wondering now how possible it is to converge with other subs when messages says,
"U-47, 52, 94, 99, 101: Pursue convoy. AM44." ?

Can any &/or all messages be taken literally or are they simply for effect/atmosphere?

Maybe I've been 'at sea' too long :hmmm:

Not sure what mod(s) you're using, but unless you see a contact report on the map those messages are meaningless/immersion only.

... thanks for the swift reply👍

Till now I have totally disregarded all messages & find them a nuisance to be honest.

Was in the vicinity and it made me wonder at the content ... 🙄

I'm using Steam for stability with GWX on Win 10 & added SHC recently but any attempt to add mods has been unsuccessful so far since SHC. Any suggestions as to mod(s) would be appreciated.
Been away from SH3 for some time & only dabbled off&on over last few years, though looking like I am hooked again.
Still unhappy about being on the bridge, yet 'submerged' in high seas 😕
Is there a mod to add the convoy routes to the navigation map that would work with GWX? Seem to remember that from years ago ?

There are reduced radio messages mods available. I too find them to be a bit to much.
I'm not familar with a convoy routes on the map mod. Maybe someone else can chime in.
If you haven't already, check the downloads section here.

As far as what mods to use, that is largely up to personal preference. But I would highly recommend H.sie's and Stiebler's patches as "required".
Make sure to get the latest versions. Here's some links with info. I do not know if they provide the latest versions.

But the following is a picture of the random layer of the campaign in the first year of the war (august '39 to august '40) in the Atlantic. The grey circles are the potential areas where convoys or units can turn to the next waypoint. As you can see that covers pretty much every spot in the ocean. (imagine if the other years are overlaid) So lines on the map do not really help you to pinpoint the route of a convoy. They give a false sense of precision. Your sensor range is only a sand grain in the pool. Or needle in the haystack. GWX should have a chart with rough lines of where the convoys can be expected. It is more practical to be somewhere in the general area (at chokepoints) and pay attention to convoy report icons on the map. And learn how to intercept those in the least amount of time.

Re the Convoy Routes Map - I kept this :-
Convoy-Routes on Map - BL!TZKR!EG Edition.7z

... tucked away from years ago and tried to install it but it did not work.

I am so rusty I feel like I have 'run aground' years ago & am just an old wreck now ...
I will try it again when next in port.
Till then I think I will do a bit more reading & look into your suggestions above.

Thx, CFT

Wow !! ... that is some map.
I have been following the stock map for routes (top left corner of Map Screen) and been fairly successful with GWX - BUT that was until I loaded SH3Commander before my latest patrol - from Lorient West then North to BE > AL > AM > BE > CF > DH (refuelled @ Corrientes) > DI > EJ > EK > DU > DH and seen 1 Neutral Med.Cargo in DH and 3/4 planes in EJ/EK but not one Map Report Icon was seen) & lingered, criss-crossing the chokepoints, as you say.
So, I am going to refuel @ Corrientes and head North via chokepoints once more.
Could my SH3C settings be causing me grief, something I am missing/forgetting?

I must admit that I made a personal change in the file SilentHunterIII\Data\Cfg\contacs.cfg

I increased the display range to radio contacts to 750 km. Default ranges are too restrictive in my humble opinion. When BdU sends out intel on units in your vicinity I doubt it was that much pinpoint to your location. This way, or with a wider area if you will, you have your own choice to make if you can reach it in time.

Thx for the tip, will try that little adjustment.

Finally received a Map Contact Report (after a tank & a 1/2 of gas :hmmm:) in SW corner of DH and made a TC 'warp speed' dash due N in foul weather to now trail Large Convoy:yeah:

I try to follow the historic orders given by the B.d.U., in terms of ordered patrol lines and grids. Quite astonishing to notice, how historically correct the game engine is in that regard ...
