Put down your AR-15 and do a quick inventory: how many rolls of TP do you have on hand currently?

If you are in the middle of an activity that requires the use of TP, complete this business then take your count.

Quite some more. For bartering. :O:

As decribed on another day, I run a warehousing regime since long, and what gets consumed, immediately gets replaced.

Its also often used over here like cotton balls - for any other purpose than its primary one.

after my midnight trip to Lucky's for the only three packs on the shelf as the stockperson(s) were just gearing up; I'm good for the month! However my boat captain's 103 year-old mom recalled using pages from the Sears catalogue growing up with a two-holer out-house in Wisconsin...and so I'm holding a stack of similar old phone books in reserve! I hauled paper from every papermill in the country in my trukkin' days: paper is paper; no need to get particular about style.:arrgh!: :know:

GOOD NEWS

Just before going to work checked my town centre and all but one shop were out. That one shop had two pallets and people were snatching them fast, restricted to two packs of four but hey I am glad. :)

That should get through a couple of weeks so will have to keep an eye out again in the mean time I am standing down to Yellow Alert.

:O:

I think we're ok here, but like someone else said, I'm not putting down my AR.... because TEXAS! :haha::haha::shucks: Relating to TP and ammo.... I think we may have enough. :shucks:

Otherwise, I'm really happy to see that some of the big stores seem to be rationing. The greed and hoarding I've seen with my own eyes is shocking. I'm sure I'm not saying anything new so far.

That being said, in Neal's own hometown, I've also seen some of the best humanity has to offer.

Try to remember to check on your neighbors. Someday it will be our turn to need help.

Hey Todd, you are still an EMT, correct? Please stay safe out there and check in, mate.

In a week or so there will be TP on pallets everywhere, more than anyone can possibly use, so hang in there.

The non-preppers are missing out on an investment opportunity. Start buying cases of Axe body spray. Think it about it for one minute.. See where I'm going?

If TP does indeed become extinct, your friends may want to smell less gamey (if they want to stay friends). You could become rich in a very short odor, uh, order.

You could also make new labels that read "ASSK" instead of AXE.

I made Paramedic shortly after you and I met right after Hurricane Ike. (2008 I think it was?)

I've been medically retired since May of last year due to injuries after 17 years on the streets. :( Recovering from another surgery now. Wish I could have made it to 20 years, but it wasn't in the cards. I really miss some things about being out there, but it is nice in some ways to sit out the latest crisis. Awesome Mrs. Lehmann though, is mostly glad I'm not out in the middle of it all anymore. :) On occasion she asks me to go play in the freeway. :D

At any rate, I think we'll be okay.... if not, we'll die side by side fightin' ta save the ship!

Shipmate, I really hope you and yours fair well.:salute:

I found part of a 12 pack that I didn't know I had, stuffed into the bottom of a

There is an app for this

https://howmuchtoiletpaper.com/

Created by London based student Software Developer Ben Sassoon and Artist Sam Harris after they had a discussion about how much toilet paper they each used on a day to day basis and how that would change during the pandemic. It has now been used by over 5,000,000 people and is helping to reduce toilet paper shortage round the world.

Sliders alter the amount of toilet rolls you have and the amount of times you go to the toilet everyday. There are also advanced settings which alter wipes per trip, sheets per wipe, sheets on roll and the length of your quarantine.

The average user has 500% more toilet paper than they need for quarantine.

STEED

This is an old Eddy Murphy joke:

One fine day, a bear was walking through the woods when he met a rabbit.
"Hey rabbit, I was wondering if I could ask to you a question?"
"No problem" says the rabbit. "Shoot".

"Well, do you have problems with #### sticking to your fur?"

"No. I've never had a problem with that."

So the bear wiped his ### with the rabbit.

About 2 weeks ago I was halve way through my last role. I kept forgetting to get a new pack of roles for a few days at the time the TP-hording started getting in the news. Perhaps luckily because I live in a part of the Netherlands where Corona still isn't at large, the racks were still reasonably full. I was just in time (before our Prime Minister declared restrictions for large gatherings) because it was empty a few days later. Now I hope stocks will replenish when the 'end is neigh'.

I feel that people do it because they are scared and feel that they have little control over what is happening. Buying stuff like TP and milk can help people feel that at least they are doing something, which can give them a sense of having some control.

Different people "stock up" on different things. TP, because of the large packaging, is easy to notice.

Wasnt til the 30's toilet paper had a mass appeal. Before that people were content with yesterdays newspaper or leaves. But I suppose we can thank "locust capitalism" and mass media drilling into our skulls day after day what we cant live without it.

This is nothing new.

In the end of the 90's Danish people started to hoard yeast for unknown reason.

The country was suffering a national strike.

From an old article in a Danish news paper

"Back in 1998, Denmark lay completely still for 11 days. The stores could not get goods run out, the newspapers did not come out, and the Danes stocked food and gasoline like never before.

The yeast crisis, as the conflict has been dubbed because the Danes began to demand extremely high demand for baked yeast for unreasonable reasons, lasted from April 25 to May 6"

Throughout the years thereafter psychologist had tried to find an explanation this this behaviour.

That's all it takes....rationing, beats the hoarders every time.

Anyhoo, as fate would have it....I was talking to a neighbour who works at ASDA last Monday and told her that whilst we had sufficient TP stocks in the house it would be appreciated if she could let me know if and when new stocks appeared.

Twenty or so minutes ago her husband knocked on our door and the wife opened the door to see him at the end of our drive and what had he left on the doorstep?

Your discussion reminded me of some episode of a series on History Channel

The program is called War Crime and does not cover what type of crime the military did during WWII but what type of crimes ordinary citizens in England did and what they accepted.

Host:

Before the war, citizens was very critical to this type of trade, but now when the war is upon them, they saw through the fingers and many of them even toke advantage and bought things from the black market.

Aldi, Morrisons and Waitrose are easing restrictions on some of their products which were imposed in the wake of stockpiling earlier this month.

All the major supermarkets restricted customers to buying fixed amounts of individual items to keep shelves full.

In case you were keeping track, I live in central Iowa south of Des Moinse.

Overall, things are looking almost normal. No price gouges and selection looks good. Except for paper products, AGAIN (still?). I talked to an employee and asked what was up. He said that yeah, its odd to see this kind of hording in tornado country but his idea is that this is almost a second "panic" wave after the first emptied the stores.
This is odd because the empty paper isle still has signs limiting purchases to one package per customer. :hmmm:

I'm guessing now is a good time to buy stock in paper companies, just be ready to sell it quick once the crisis is over. TP and kitchen towels don't have a shelf life. :O:

That is precisely how they were stopped in my town.....rationing to two or three of the same item. Heck just this Wednesday I went to a local supermarket and was limited to a single case of beer so off I went to another two miles away and was able to pick three more up.

Ha! The wife was standing next to me when you last posted and I said "Here's the bait, let's take a nibble" :)

FYI historically for many years now and if you take the time and effort to search this forum you will see I have often stated I have what some on here refer to as my 'beer emporium' which is often stocked with in excess of thirty cases of beer and multiple bottles of dark rum.

Now I'm retired and no longer expected to run toward the danger I intend to live as comfortable a retirement as possible so choose the odd tipple as opposed to gambling or smoking.

If the above quantities are classed as hoarding even years prior to any pandemic scare then so be it.

What I am opposed to are those who fill their shopping trolleys up with excessive numbers of the same item an example being what I posted earlier.

Take up to the limits set out by the supermarket and that is fair because there is enough for everyone.

What I have witnessed is people making multiple trips to the car park unloading their trolley then going straight back into the supermarket....that I firmly can't condone.

Take your allowance and if you want more, go to another supermarket and queue for their allowance.

Dunno, maybe she was the one designated to get that particular item.

Thing is that she may very well be a hoarder but unless that picture is old I wonder where would she be allowed to take that much TP without a good reason? All the stores around here are limiting purchases to one or two packages per customer. It would have to be a pretty good story to get that much past the checkout, not to mention the line of angry fellow customers.

Well, it was time to once again hike out for groceries. :yep:
Prices are holding stable and selection is good on food items and meats.
If there were a food shortage in Iowa, there would definitely be riots and outbreaks of cannibalism.

Paper goods are still as rare as solid plutonium nose rings (ie, there ain't none) which is strange. :hmmm:
Three to four weeks on the panic train and you would think things would start to relax as people got bored and the stocks would return to normal. But, I guess civilization is built on a foundation of Charmin. :O:

My local store has a strict "Two per Customer" policy and now always has some in stock. Grabbed a 12-pack just today.

finally got out yesterday for an hour to the local grocery store where all of the old paper towels and toilet paper had been
were now rolls and rolls of single TP for only $1 each (limited to one) and $2 each for the one roll generic paper towels,
but you could have as many of them as you wanted.

Case of water for only $3.99 :yep:

Got my favorite chicken too

They said gloves and masks were enough for safe shopping.
But all those others wore also shoes, trousers and pullovers, my god it was embarrassing.

All fo us have probably seen signs in shops, mainly cafes, stating, "No shoes, No Shirt , No Service"; In walking around the neighborhood, I noticed a few of the remaining open businesses with new signs saying "No Mask, No Service"" I had the same thought as Catfish: if I wear a mask, can I now enter barefoot and shirtless?...
