The standard procedure for such an escort upon getting a contact, was to run down it's bearing, guns blazing, and drop charges on the swirl if the u-boat was able to dive. More often than not, the u-boat was surprised.
After many campaigns/patrols in GWX and NYGM, I have yet to see an escort do that.
Even though they have radar, they're still relying on visual contact of the u-boat before they do any offensive actions.
Anyone else ?
p.s. more often than not, u-boats were also surprised by aircraft, even with a rwr.
Have not had that happen either. Thinking about reducing the rwr's ranges for that.

I think because in any SH serie, AI can only use one sensor at a time. Might be hard coded anyway.

Thanks, I'm aware of that game limitation. Logic would think it would be using it's radar in that case then; stronger sensor vs. visual ?
I.e. what would be the point of having radar if it's not being used ?

I think ships are using radar when bad visibility/fog to track targets...or even at night maybe (but visual sensor probably takes the job)
Might also depends what mega mod you are running. Don’t know if some mega mod handles that.

If so, that's disappointing. Been running GWX and NYGM. The more time I spend with the game, the lower opinion I have of the AI.
Basic flaws.

Try "Elite" setting in "Properties" in SH3 Mission Editor if playing SP.

I'll do that. That make the escort crews have an elite rating ?
Of course, elite or not, the escorts should still be using their radar.
