Good news though, you can simulate this in real time while playing the game, all you need is a old battery and some salt water. :D

The best that can be done is by yourself, i.e. when you have flooding in the battery compartments, focus repairs on that area. I have come out of silent running to pump and repair those compartments to simulate that.

Yeah I know. I do the same thing. But when the batteries are that damaged, chlorine gas should be a problem too.
Usually that meant abandoning the boat asap.
As is, one can just repair the batteries and continue on their merry way. I guess I need to start playing that way instead; if batteries will take x hours to repair, they're leaking gas too, abandon boat, etc.
Add it to my list of self-imposed rules <g>
