Hello all,
So I just started the second campaign in TWOS. I read that changing submarines from type VIIA to VIIB was tied to which campaign you’re on in TWOS. I started “Happy Times”, it’s July 1940, and I never had an option to change subs in the bunker after completing the 1st campaign, so I’m still in the VIIA. Is this normal, or is something wrong? I have roughly 5000 renown. I think my rating is -1 for some reason, maybe sinking a neutral or 2. Thanks in advance.

I don't know exactly how Twos decides when to give you the new subs but its definitely not normal to not get them at all.
I got the message informing me I have been given command of VIIB when I ended my patrol after Operation Weserübung somewhere around April 29 1940.
I don't know if its date based or performance based,I had sunk around 218000 tons by then and had Iron Cross 1st and 2nd class. But logically is should be about date and not performance.

It depends on tonnage sunk afaik.

Ok, so I’ve got 100,000 tons, it’s July 1940, still in the VIIA with no option to upgrade subs.
Does rating have anything to do with it?
My rating was -1 (don’t know why) before my last patrol.
I did a patrol in the Air Gap, sank 4 merchants in a convoy, was depth charged for hours, and got ballast tank damage, requiring returning to port to repair. I returned to Lorien, ended my 1 month patrol (4 ships sunk, 18000 tons) and now my rating is -2. I realize that’s not a great patrol, but it shouldn’t lower my rating, I wouldn’t think.
I have TWOS megamod installed from a clean install.
Any ideas why I’m still in the VIIA?
Any way to edit a file to upgrade my sub? This is getting old. Thanks!

Aaaaannd, figured it out. It is tonnage based. I sank a couple more ships in a previous save, ended the patrol and, BOOM, sub upgrade to the VIIB.
