This message just arrived as i sail off the eastern coast of England: "Further U-boat sailings are to be stopped. U-boats which have already sailed are not to operate off the Norwegian coast. All Naval forces to be ready for operations as quickly as possible. No special degree of readiness." Does anyone know what it means? The date is 04th of March 1940.
Nothing bad will happen if you pay heed to the message. I assume it is due to anticipation of Weserubung, the invasion of Norway [and Denmark.] Hitler ordered Doenitz to send U-boats to participate, to sink British and French naval forces opposing the landings.
Near the end of the war in 1945 I was sailing in a Type VII C and got orders to take secret cargo to Argentina. No way for me to make it, so I ignored the orders. Nothing bad happens in-game if you ignore the orders.

You didn’t take Hitler to Argentina?!?!
No wonder he shot himself in the bunker!

Later i got another message that something will happen when i return to base, i don't really recall what, i thought they would transfer me or something but i just got another patrol mission. I like these details, they add to the realism. The secret cargo seems like a mysterious mission. Thanks for the clarification.

That was another nice thing about AOD. Now and then (rarely), you'd get a notice from your radioman, "Important message coming in Herr Kaluen".
And the message would be more than eye candy. I.e, one of my favorites, the one in July, 1941 about limiting communications.
If one ignored it, the chances increased that their location would be given away.

If i manage to stay alive till then i'd like to see that. On another matter and not wanting to create a new thread because it's something for newbies like me, but how can i make my U-boat go backwards without turning itself? I have done this a couple of times by plotting a course backwards but it starts to turn first, then it stops and does what i want.

Never seen that happen myself, and I go backwards after every surface attack.
Using NYGM.
When I wish to reverse I first hit the comma button, which sets the rudder to straight. The ' button is two keys to the right of the L button on a QWERTY keyboard.
