I've been reading Ducimus's info. about the ai. Has anyone tried changing how wave action affects their ability ?
I know in real life it did, but I'd like to make the escorts something to fear more often.
Any other ideas are welcome.
Even in '43 and '44 I'm getting silly tonnage #'s, GWX or NYGM, numerous campaigns. I.e., my last '43 patrol before a fido got me, I had 46k. Partly that was because I came across a convoy that a NYGM wolfpack had hammered already, but even so, 20-30k is not uncommon per patrol.
Fwiw:
- manual targeting. Or I should say only the speed and course, as I only do 90 job attacks so I don't bother with range.
- Once radar comes about, I never do a surface attack. Only daylight submerged. I plot a course to intercept a convoy, reaching the point I want an hour or more ahead of the convoy and then turn into it and dive when a ship is spotted.
I attack from within the convoy, never the sides during these years.
I do not do night submerged attacks.
- My preferred submerged escape tactic is to go out the rear of the convoy, on it's opposite course. It rarely does not work.
This changes of course, if actually hunted.
The escorts are tough enough if they actually hunt me (though with time, it's not hard to escape), but I'd like them to detect me more often if possible.
Ideas ? I'm not a fan of the "after x time of no contact, escort(s) leave" part either, but not sure anything worthwhile can be done about that (I'm aware of how to edit it).
I know messing with the AI files can be a can of worms.
