View Full Version : Tips on keeping notes during patrol?

Heyo everyone.
Went out on our September 1939 patrol recently. Everything went pretty well but I would like to nail down a good layout for notes that I can do quickly mid-patrol.
I know it sounds absurd, but I really don't have physical pen and paper at the moment, I'm looking to get some. Tabbing out of the game and keeping notes in notepad isn't the best, but I suppose it could work if nothing else is available. I saw Tycho was working on a really really cool notepad mod for SHIII, but I was turned off by the fact that the sub keyboard commands aren't disabled while typing in the notepad, I use the keyboard quite often.
Anyone have any mod or personal solutions? Know any neat programs for this? Thanks. :Kaleun_Cheers:

Not only do I use pad and paper but I keep a ship journal as well.

Oh wow, I'm actually a big fan of yours on youtube bstanko, I'm well aware of your physical Captain's Log :Kaleun_Cheers:
I'll look around but I think I'll settle for notepad ultimately.

Hey I’m glad my vids are helping. If you do decide to step up to ship journals, you can find them on Amazon!

I use a separate laptop on my desk for that sort of thing. On it I can make notes, refer to pdf recognition manuals (so much easier than clicking through in game), have all the notes and charts from the Just Follow Orders mod which I follow for extra realism, plus the use of an experimental application I kind of gave up working on which simulates radio contact with BDU, generating new and random, though historically accurate grid assignments mid-patrol. I may finish it one day, who knows?
The second monitor/system is the best alternative to alt-tabbing I think, which can be more dangerous to your career than 1945, lol. Even a smart phone could prove satisfactory.

Yes indeed, though I've only read about it. I was experimenting with various parameters, trying to get more intelligent interaction from BDU based on the information you would send them, more detailed for instance than what's included on the in-game status reports and typical BDU responses, plus some additional features.

Or Stiebler's version for that matter.

I just keep a real KTB ... game play issues are noted at the last entry of the Unternehmung.
