I have tried without success to find out how to eliminate the annoying requirement of keeping the CD in the CD-Rom player in order to start the SH4 game. I had only one person reply and unfortunately we never quite managed to be on the same page of the issue....but I thank him immensely for replying.

I was just about to give up loading game on my new Win 10 PC when I thought as a long shot, I’d query google to see if I could find out anything. Low and behold the first thing that popped up was exactly what I was looking for. Come to find out that if I were to load the 1.5 version mod (or whatever you call it) that the CD is no longer required.
Now why couldn’t one of the hundreds of members on this forum tell me that?!
I wasn’t doing ANYTHING illegal because I had bought and paid for it then downloaded from Amazon years ago.
I can’t believe no one understood what I was asking... I really am at a complete loss to understand why members looked at the post but didn’t reply. Seems like an easy thing to do. I have to say I’m very disappointed as I had gotten good advice several times before and even posted a neat trick about loading and unloading torpedoes when tubes were damaged ( no one knew you could do that at that time). But it’s been years since I visited or needed forum advice and info. I don’t know if things have changed but I was lost trying to navigate through all the various sub forums and searches for what I needed. I don’t know why my searches turned up nothing...probably my confusion and not knowing where and how to post questions again.
Anyway it appears my problem is solved but I’ve got to say it wasn’t one of you... but my old friend google.
Sorry for the rather harsh remarks but I do feel left out in the dark here.

I would have been happy to help but haven't had the option of using a CD for years now.

Yes, we certainly missed your post, cause i don’t see why we didn’t answer something, even a dumb thing :)

I’m using SH4 CD, and had to install starforce free application to forget about the CD.
But that was so long time ago, i don’t even remember how i did it

Sorry you didn’t get any response :06:

I never saw your post and would have given the same answer regarding the need for V1.5 if I had. Sorry we missed it.

Is it possible you posted it to a different sticky or thread?

Posting where you did was the problem. Most folks would not look in the SubSim Review section for a query for help. Sorry we missed you there. Also, even my old version would play without the disk, so I suspect you either have an old-old disk version (original??), or something was wrong with the install. Using your old disk version, an update to the SH4 v1.4 Patch (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=8) found here on SubSim may have solved your problem, but then again, if the install was messed-up, maybe not. The v1.5 with the U-Boats for the most part is the best version anyway. Just do not install it in a Windows "Program Files" folder if you plan on doing any updating. :salute:

Get the UBoat missions. Once installed you do not need CDs anymore.

Sorry you had to go through that experience. The individual who tried helping you often means well but doesn't help most of the time. But as was said you posted in the wrong forum and that's what caused the lack of response.

How are you getting on now, Voxman? Got the U-Boat missions yet?

No response? that's a little disappointing :03:! thing is stuff gets buried and lost a sea with the sheer traffic of posts. Updating post can negate this to a degree. Not helping another Captain isn't the Subsim way, persevere mate. :Kaleun_Salute:
