View Full Version : Is Your Cheese Sliding off The Cracker?

https://i.imgur.com/Jyna5mV.jpg Just now I had a taste sensation: a cheese so delicious I told Moira it was better than chocolate

'Wookey Hole Cave-Aged Goat's Cheese' from ASDA... "Aged in Somerset's ancient Wookey Hole Caves" (don't ask me why). She probably got this for one of her gin, cheese & cracker sessions, but made the mistake of leaving it out

But... it's a very expensive cheese (£2.50 for a piece the size of a small door wedge) so I now think I need recommendations for other top tasting cheeses (I prefer cheddar type and blue cheeses myself) also it can maybe help me get the mice around here to keep their hands off my nuts

My cheese slid off years ago.

My current favourite from ASDA is the Mexicana Hot Cheese.

If you're gonna have cheese on crackers make sure you have a slice of gherkin on top!

No, i use cyanacrylate glue. This way cheese and cracker remain where they are and the plate never gets empty.

I likes Bleu Cheese a lot though I dont know of any particular cheese makers.

I do love a good beef burger on a bun with nothing more than melted Bleu Cheese on it. Also a favorite is french bread cut into half inch slices topped with an apple slice, bleu cheese and a dash of paprika. Baked until golden brown, mmmmmmm

Yeah I must have cheese on my burger too but it's always been regular cheddar... I must try it with blue cheese

I used to like "Kraft Cheddar", comes in a blue box down here in Australia.

I once ate a whole box with a carton of "Jatz" biscuits and was constipated for a week.

No fun :wah:

How do you cut the cheese?

I typically use a sharp and quick knife. Get it done before anyone asks questions.

^ :haha:

If crackers, i buy those former-Bahlsen-now-Lorenz ones, thin, crisp and slightly salted, with a bit of cream butter.
There are so many phantastic cheese varieties.. cheddar is good but so are hundreds of others. Not only dutch and french ones, but the simple italian grana padano, or corsican.

@big E: Kraft used to be a north american solo brand but is now an international company group together with Heinz, with lots of other companies belonging to it. They also produce "analogue" cheese (https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheese_analogue) square slices to melt on toast, maybe for the english market? Don't dare to eat that alone..

@furry E: This goat cheese sounds promising :hmmm:
I will never trade anything against chocolate though :O:

Have tried to find a youtube clip from a Danish food program.

It's called Brother Price and in one their episode they had got hold of a cheese with live maggots

During the session where they talked about this cheese and tasted it some of the crew behind the scene fainted.

They said it was illegal and could not be bought in Denmark

This is Casu marzu, maggott cheese, also corsican of course :yep:

 This cheese might indeed slide wander off your cracker.

The most delicious spice sauce made by the Romans, this "garium" was also nothing you would have wanted to see being made.. old fish rests dumped into cavities in the direct sun, and let it rot.. much like the first Worcerstershire sauce.
Or suurströmming.. but i digress.

What counts in the end is how it tastes, and if people will buy and eat it.

I remember when some nations in the EU tried to outlaw french cheese because there were bacteria in it.. oh no who would have thought! If someone told them there's ethanole in beer.. oh no: chemicals :haha:

Addition to my last comment.

I found the video clip. The bad thing though it's on FB and I know some of you do not have an account there.

I post it anyway

It's Danish but watch the video it's about 50-60 long.

This is always our cheddar of choice these days (from ALDI). It's deliciously creamy, with just the right amount of bite and crumbliness

And it's BRITISH!

Aldi? :hmmm:
Maybe special offer in England, though i'd have to check here. In normal shops you usually get the irish cheddar here, and - even if i should not say that - the english cheddar tastes better i think. You only get the latter in pieces at the counter, never in packages here.

Hey I just realised I already did this thread:

Maybe they should find out if cheese is what causes memory loss?

Moira got this poncy French cheese today... "Made with milk from the Abondance cow"

Seems rather waxy and tasteless compared to the ALDI cheddar

It's worse than I thought... I just found yet another thread I started about cheese, would you believe it? I think my cheese really must be sliding off the cracker:

Maybe they should be melted under a warm grill and merged

Even I have some years back started a thread about cheese.

What can I say...cheese is popular.

Maybe four threads aren't enough and I should start another one :)
