The entry I put in has a different time than others. My game time is 16:19. The new entry time should be 16:20. But instead, I got 17:20.

Hi Wolfcat
The difference in time is Nautical and GMT.
The game will always load showing Nautical time.
Stopwatch time is always GMT.
Ships Journal and Message Box are always in tandem with each other.
My advice is when the game loads to the bridge change Nautical to GMT and Iif you are using the Real Navigation app your time to select will be always be based on GMT.

Oh I see. Two more follow-up questions:
1. What time does Real Nav automation script use? Nautical or GMT? If I change nautical to GMT, would that affect the scripts I am running?
2. I accidentally misplaced a nav mark on the map. Then all follow-up position marks were based on the misplaced mark. Even if I deleted that misplace mark, the new updates are still based that. Is there any way that I can reset my nav marks?

Again a nice tutorial! :)
Important should be an add that is important to see an old navigation mark or supermark when setting any new navigation fix/supermark (like Vecko added now the info on game when touching the pencils on the side bar) because when not, it will not work or often it caused a ctd.

1. What time does Real Nav automation script use? Nautical or GMT? If I change nautical to GMT, would that affect the scripts I am running?
The game always starts on Nautical time.
The Stopwatch always shows GMT time.
There will be times when the Nautical time and the Stopwatch time will be in sync when you start your game depending on where you are and what time of year it is.
To save confusion it is better to change Nautical time to GMT when the game starts and the Real Navigation app will be on GMT time when you enable it.
If you leave the time on Nautical without changing it then the Real Navigation app will use Nautical.
If the Real Navigation app is running and you decide to change the time from Nautical to GMT the Real Navigation app will automatically change to use GMT while it is enabled.
2. I accidentally misplaced a nav mark on the map. Then all follow-up position marks were based on the misplaced mark. Even if I deleted that misplace mark, the new updates are still based that. Is there any way that I can reset my nav marks? Order the navivigaor to plot a celestial map fix and this will replace any previous map plot.
All real navigation plots can be moved by you.
An alternative option is to make a manual game save and exit to the main menu. When you reload the save you will automatically see a RN1C celestial plot from your navigator as your starting position. You then start the real navigation app and the navigator automatically plots your position 2 by dead reckoning.

Thanks for all the tips. You've been very helpful. Just one more question. It seems that my navigator doesn't do celestial positioning during daytime for some reason. I can order it and he will respond but he never finishes his calculation.

If the weather is not right a celestail fix by the navigator cannot be made.
I do not know anything on the actual facts of Celestial Navigation, not something I have looked at in the game, other than the fact a sextant is used.
The clue is in the name > Celestial!
You cannot see the stars in daylight so the sun is used instead to take a reading at its highest point in the day.
Your best option is to go on YouTube and search for "Celestial navigation in Silent Hunter 5" and see what pops up.

Hi Wolfcat
You need to open TDW's OFEV Ships Journal Tab where you will find the patches you need.

hmm... Very interesting. My supermarks still won't get saved into SJ. Also, regardless of GMT or nautical, my entry time is always 1hr+. The GMT time is 5pm, my entry is 6pm. If I flip to nautical, the time is 6 but entry time becomes 7.

Hi Wolfcat
My supermarks still won't get saved into SJ Are you seeing the supermarks on the map?
Supermarks will not show unless when the game loads you open the Ships Journal and select the journal you are want to use.
If you are following my tutorial you should not be having a problem.
Are you using an existing jornal that shows on the main menu?
What mission are you doing?
What is the current date and time in your mission?
When the game loads you will see that the Navigator shows GMT as a + or - in the Message Box.

Peter,
I do see the super marks. They all look good on my map. I am doing the very first campaign and mission (coastal one that you need attack shippings in and out of Danzig bay). I have an existing SJ, but I also saved another one in game with a different name. I set TDW option to use GMT time only. Btw, how do I capture in-game screen shots and post them here?

Hi Wolfcat
I have an existing SJ, but I also saved another one in game with a different name. When the game loads to the main menu the Ships Journal will show the last saved Journal, you can accept this or click on the Ships Journal and select a different one.
As you are in the first missison your Nautical time is 1 hour ahead of GMT. You will notice that ports do not go red untill 00.00 GMT/ Stopwatch time.
You also need to remember when you come to dock at Kiel always work on GMT or Stopwatch time.
how do I capture in-game screen shots and post them here?

What about capturing in game screen shots? I tried "print screen", but when I paste it out to Paint, it only gives me the desktop view.

I used an existing SJ called U-58
1. Open the SJ, put in test entry 1 and saved it
https://i.postimg.cc/gcyYY14K/SH5-Img-2020-01-07-12-24-36.jpg
2. Make a supermark and saved it. as you can see the test entry is there
https://i.postimg.cc/wTBnSrrM/SH5-Img-2020-01-07-12-26-16.jpg
3. Save the game
https://i.postimg.cc/0QfH4Gd7/SH5-Img-2020-01-07-12-31-02.jpg
4. Quit the game and save the whole SJ
https://i.postimg.cc/7hRXvKCJ/SH5-Img-2020-01-07-12-31-19.jpg
5. Back at main menu. SJ U-58 still selected
https://i.postimg.cc/ZRdDbtSF/SH5-Img-2020-01-07-19-06-16.jpg
6. Load the saved game
https://i.postimg.cc/yNJLj4k4/SH5-Img-2020-01-07-19-06-33.jpg
7. Open the map, as you can see, the supermark didn't get saved

8. The test entry wasn't saved either.

I may have finally found out what is wrong. The stuff gets saved into SJ fine. But when reload your game session, DO NOT use "load game". Use continue campaign. If you use "load game", all previous saves such as supermarks and nav marks will be erased.

Hi Wolfcat
You loaded SJ U-58 which was showing below the Ships Journal in the main menu.
What you needed to do was open the Ships Journal in the main menu and select TEST ENTRY 0! and then load the last game save.
When the game loads to the main menu it will show not the last SJ but the previous one U-58. At this point it needs to know which SJ you want tou use. If you want the mission to use the same SJ then instead of TEST ENTRY 01 you would enter U-58 when the game loads.
When the game loads and you open the SJ you need to decide whether you now want to use the existing one showing in the main menu or create a new one.
If you open TEST ENTRY 01 when the game save loads you will see your saved supermarks.

Hi THEBERBSTER
:Kaleun_Salute:
Excellent work, taking the extra time to make a pictorial works better than just text instructions.
This answers the same issue I was having.
The Super Marks were not getting saved across a series of manual loads.
I now see what to do...
thanks Peter

Peter, why “load game” and “continue campaign” does things differently? So the use of “continue campaign” is not recommended? Anything wrong to use “continue campaign” to load the latest save?
THEBERBSTER
01-09-20, 05:43 PM
Hi Wolfcat
I am not sure what the precise function of "Continue Campaign" does in relation to "Load Game". For example in "sobers mega mod" you only have the "Continue Campaign" once a career has been started. In TWoS you have to make a manual save in the bunker before starting your first mission. To sum up "Continue Campaign" will always load the last game save.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge will be able to tell us both what the real difference is.

Hey peter. Would it be a good idea to have separate sj file for each mission? The file gets very large pretty quickly

I guess Destroyed Marks cannot be saved in SJ, correct? Is there anyway to save DM's

Thanks for this. A couple of questions:
I see there's a box for destroyed marks. I've never seen them in SH5. Is there a way of seeing them?
Is there a way of not saving every crew comment regarding navigation, engine speed etc and just saving your own comments, other than manual deletion? Going back to journal files involves reams of the former which are useless after the fact. It'd be great to have a captain's log with your own entries in it.
