Started a new patrol in March of 42. Out of lorient. Using gwx in my viic sub. This is now my second patrol and I keep getting sent all the way out to the east coast of the united states. Seems silly that they send this med. Range boat that far. I get it if I'm in a type 9 but I barely make it back and have to constalty worry about fuel.
Oh I'm using commander too
You can patrol where you want and avoid that patrol grid order from BDU, you wont get that little renown but anyway.... :)
Using SH3 commander you can assign your own patrol grid..
go near Gibraltar and have fun there for example. or even reykjavik.
My last mission out of Brest 1 Flotilla in my Type IIV was sent all the way to the mid Carbbeean south of PR. 3 weeks travel time at 7/8 knots arriving with 50% + fuel so it IS doable.
I'm guessing the game rationalizes a deployment of this type by taking into account U-tankers were available in '42 to help with re-supply.

Use a u-tanker if available. That was what they were for. I can't remember the date they first appear in '42.

I also was having a VII and in early '42 I was assigned to the States and back with no fuel worries. Just travel ahead one third. Historically this is accurate. Many VII was assigned to the U.S. coasts, and since Americans was still inexperienced, it was a brief second happy times for U-boats. Generally is doable.
