While it took more than 20 years from start of construction to operative service for the “Severodvinsk” and 11 years for the “Kazan”, the “Novosibirsk” is likely to show a more normal construction time for the class.
“Novosibirsk” was laid down in July 2013 and is expected to enter service by the end of next 2020.
There are currently four additional Yasen-M class submarines under construction at Sevmash yard; the “Krasnoyarsk”, “Arkhangelsk”, “Perm” and “Ulyanovsk”. Contracts for two more, yet to be named, are signed and their construction is said to start in mid-2020.

It was closer to 7,7 years on the slipway for Kazan or comparable to other European boats.

Looks like a traditional screw vs a ducted fan. :hmmm:
That explains some things.

Yasen and both Yasen-M submarines launched so far have screws.
As does the Laika/Husky:

I mean while our rates are similar to Europeans they are still way behind US.

The Russian defense ministry probably swaps out the screw for the real secret propulsor after all the celebrations. :hmmm:

The submarines in ikalugin's library pictures are the ones you have to worry about ... You can hear the surface craft pinging 60 miles away :yep:
Plenty of time to turn tail and run, but then the bad boys on helio's will hear you too. Perhaps we all should just say, "Peace unto you brothers" :yep:

Why? Screws work unless you absolutely need to maintain high tactical speeds in shallow waters and we plan to operate SSNs in deep waters.

He means that those new russian submarines have a good sonar detection, so they can easily outmanouver an active sonar already from 60 miles or so.
Still helicopters may get you, so he says it is best for all to keep the peace.
Or so I think..

Correct translation, plus I left out the new unmanned sub hunters and the UAW's the future for subs is not good except for protecting carriers that is :yep:

Ahh, thanks. Well this would obviously depend on the conditions and the type of active pinger I guess.
