Get the destroyer to find you. It will come straight for you. At a moderate speed, manoeuvre yourself so that you are aiming straight for it at periscope depth. You are both going head to head. Must be zero degrees to your nose. This is the only difficult bit and requires some accuracy, but it comes with practice. The periscope must be used. Now, when it's in range, let off a torp. Hold your nerve and keep heading straight for it. If you veer left or right, it will folllow you and your torp will miss. Then dive dive dive, but keep your course. Then come left or right either just before the torp hits, or just after. The destroyers bow will be blown off and she'll dig in at the front and go straight down.

Not immersive. No real world commander would do that.

Not immersive. No real world commander would do that.In point of fact and having taken logic 101, your blanket statement is untrue! under 'down the throat torpedo shots' on wiki, up pops USS GUDGEON, USS PAMPANITO in addition to Mushbby. Not always successful due poor gyros(in real life) etc. but certainly attempted BY REAL WORLD COMMANDERS!. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Down_the_throat (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Down_the_throat)

Check out the down-the-throat shots of "Mush" Morton!:Kaleun_Salute: my own use of the tactic involves using a high-speed steam 'eel' (not electric); waiting ...mindful of the torpedo's arming distance (300)and at under 500 meters, launching a shallow 1 meter shot, wait till the strike, then hit crash-dive with a hard 90 turn at full speed...this can get dicey, as in SH-V the destroyer, already 'bow down' and sinking, has collided with my diving boat with dire consequences.:wah::dead:
