View Full Version : "Engine missing" problem

This is a strange one, something I've never heard of before. I've got LSH2015 installed, seemed to go well. Successfully passed the first three exams in the naval academy.

On the fourth exam, torpedoes, the loading screen progresses quite well, then hangs for a very long time about 10% or so left to go, then crashes to desktop. I get a white backgrounded text box pop up with the title "Engine Missing" and this text in the box:

No CSubtorpedo.Ctrl*.cmihalache

Anyone have any ideas? This occurs whether I use the starter icon in the LSH2015 folder or directly via the SH3 desktop shortcut.

:timeout:

After a Google search I found this old Ubi post from 2010:

https://forums.ubisoft.com/showthread.php/474000-problem-is-fixed

There is a hint of the problem but the original poster did not leave enough detail as to how he fixed the problem. Hmm.:hmmm:

I have decided to do a fresh installation of SH3 and LSH-2015. If the problem occurs again, I will know there is a problem somewhere within the mod.

How about trying the tutorial without the mods enabled and see if you get the same response.
The tutorial is stock SH3
This tutorial I would think is setup for Auto TDC if you are setup for manual targeting in LSH3 I do not know if this would make a difference.

Hi Peter,

I completely uninstalled everything, then reinstalled SH3 and LSH2015. I went into the h.site app and enabled only those settings that have LSH beside them. I was able to do all academy exams. I had only the main mod and widescreen GUI enabled via JSGME.

Next step is to enable more mod options and add some more h.sie options, such as realistic repair times. I'll report on how it goes.

The other thing I did was disable my antivirus and unplug my network cable so that I am not connected to the internet while my AV is down. I also had to tell my AV program not to flag various SH files as threats.

I'll do more experimenting and get back with reports.

Hi Randy
Some anti-virus programs like AVG treat all executives as threats including the SH5 TWoS mega mod and try to block them.
Changing the firewall to make an exception was the way round this.
I now use Bullguard Premium and it automatically takes care of everything for me.

I completed the first patrol in Erpro, went to the target zone off the island and returned without sinking anything, so as not to skew my log. Docked back at Stralsund and clicked on the phone. I did something wrong because I tried to go to 2nd Flotilla and got base changed to null. Could not get out of that window and had to task manager out to desktop.

I deleted that career to start all over again with a new captain and now I am only being offered a Type II in August 39. No matter how many times I reload via Commander it only offers a Type II.

I think I must be doing something wrong. I have consulted the Berbster tutorial for how to exit that first training mission. But I'll be damned if I go to war in a duck.

Hi Randy
In a situation like you had what you need to take a look at is go to the game save loading screen.
Check and see what game saves are showing.
The game save that starts the game is "In base before mission"

You say in your post that you docked your boat so that would be the save that you needed to delete and exit back to the desktop before starting SH3Commander again.

You say you can only see a IIA, did you you use the arrow to see if there was also a VIIB as in the picture here?

Hi Peter,

I have no save games at all; I completely deleted the Kaleun's career and am trying to start a new career via Commander in August 1939. I do try the drop down list and all I see is the Type II. If I advance the starting month eventually other boats show up; I am hoping to try a VIIB for pre-war cruise to be at sea for September 1939.

In Commander you need to choose another (2 or 7) flotilla.
Have you solved another problem?
I remembered myself in your place.

Hi Anvar
No, you cannot do that in LSH3-2015 because you have to do a test mission in the Eprobüngstelle 1st flotilla and then after you dock you ask for a transfer.
In this picture it is important that the year date 1939 matches the same as your career as showing in SH3C in the previous post.
https://s14.postimg.cc/gfqjexd5t/image.png

In theory you should be able to start your game with a IIA if a VIIB is not showing complete your test mission, dock, then ask for a transfer to another flotilla which you can choose from whatever is available.

This is the transfer screen you see with the flotilla's 1,2 and 7 available to transfer too.

When you next start your game you should be able to upgrade your boat your from the office to a VIIB.

It does appear that you can see from my previous post picture that the boat or boats available in starting a new career seems to be a bit of a lottery.

Hi Anvar,

I solved my problem by a complete reinstallation of SH3 and LSH2015.

Peter,

Interesting suggestion. I have tried opening commander many times to start LSH2015 and every time I get only the choice of a Type II. I will try again, and take a II out on my cruise. So, if I follow your suggestion, get a transfer and then opt for a VII, must I take my new type boat out on a "test cruise" or is the test cruise only done once at the beginning of every new career? Alternatively, can I simply start the game with the LSH starter and then use Commander for subsequent career game starts? Right now I am using Commander to get a real name Kaleun for a new career in August 39.

Also, if I get a new boat, can I make changes to crew, torpedoes and such or should I take it as is? I recall that you should not make changes to the boat on a first cruise as that can cause problems such as kills not being credited. Is that the reason for the Erprobungs first patrol in a new career, to prevent that particular problem?

Thanks to both of you for your help and suggestions.

Problem seems to be solved.:Kaleun_Applaud:

I started a new career, under the name of "Albert Keller." "Albert the Kraut" was a kid of German heritage who lived in our apartment building when I was a kid growing up in Toronto in the 1970s. He was a problem child, liked to knick things from stores and even from other kids at school. He even had the nerve to set fire to a gas station garbage dumpster and blame my younger brother for it, even when I saw him coming out from behind the dumpster just before the fire. I saved my little brother from getting his backside tanned by Dad when I told my father I saw Albert lurking behind the gas station just before the fire. His mother was crazily after my father, who was our building's superintendent. She would shamelessly strip off and parade around naked when my Dad was hauling ashcans from our coal-fired heating system in the alleyway outside her apartment. Dad got a kick out of it but never took her up on the offer. :D

Ahem.. back to the game...

What I did this time was start the game not via Commander but by the LSH starter icon. Then I created "Albert Keller" and did the Erpro patrol. I did not sink anything, as I do not wish peacetime training kills to show up in my log. Returned to Stralsund in the evening of August 2nd, 1939. Saved the game while in-base, dished out the gongs awarded in-game, then applied for the transfer to Wilhelmshaven. This time it worked, no null base message. I saved and exited game. Then I fired up Commander and I see Albert Keller and his status in Wilhelmshaven before patrol 2. I can now start the game using Commander, enable its options and tinker with my boat and crew, without having to worry about that first patrol bug that fails to credit kills.

Anyhow, seeing as I had such problems getting my first career in LSH2015 going, I decided to name my problematic first career after the first problematic kid I grew up with. Albert, prost, wherever you are!:Kaleun_Cheers:

And :Kaleun_Cheers: to Berbster and all who offered help. Now I must have a lunch of unshaved pig and tea and get out to sea, kameraden, for a peacetime patrol to the west of England. Do you think that old cigar chomper von Churchill will start a war?

Glad to hear you have your game up and running.

I take my new type boat out on a "test cruise" or is the test cruise only done once at the beginning of every new career? You are correct when you say you only do it once in a new career, however you will also do it when you upgrade your boat.
If you select Flotilla 2 as your transfer then you should find a VIIB available.
You do not need to do the Eprobungstelle mission. Just for instance a couple of hundred meters and dock your boat again and transfer will complete the test mission.
As long as you see this you can dock.

Alternatively, can I simply start the game with the LSH starter and then use Commander for subsequent career game starts? Right now I am using Commander to get a real name Kaleun for a new career in August 39. I have found the shortcuts problematic, you would better to go to the Commander folder in the game folder and select the application to run as an administrator and then send the application to the taskbar. You will then have a very quick way to open SH3C.
Wishing you a Happy Christmas if I do not hear from you before.

Hello Peter,

Merry Christmas to you, too, and of course to all here!

Had a very successful first career patrol. 23 days at sea and netted 7 ships for 56,923 tons. I nailed two singles for about 5100 tons around Rockall Bank, then received a report of a slow outbound convoy SW of my position. It took only a few hours of game time to intercept and I called in the sighting. BdU told me to go for it.

On the first attack [early evening] I hit two T3e tankers; damaged one and sank the other and also nailed a navy tanker. After evading and reloading I overtook again and sank the damaged tanker and sank another navy tanker.

By this time I had only one external torpedo under the stern deck plates. I hauled off submerged and just before sunrise I detected via hydrophones another vessel approaching my position, crossing my course from east to west. Now out of visual range of the convoy escorts I surfaced about 7 kms from the vessel, about 3000 tons. It is the first month of the war so the merchantman was unarmed. I took her down with the deckgun, being out of torpedoes. I then hightailed off to the northeast at fast speed for a few hours then slowed down. Visibility dropped so I took the chance to bring in the spare eel. Rounding the UK I hit a storm and had an uneventful trip home. I did have a close contact, a loner, in the North Sea but with winds of 15m/s I did not press an attack.

I must say that I do like the enhanced damage effects in LSH, the "volumetric" smoke and such and the new fire effects, and my new rig took no hit to process it. I had a variety of sinking styles so I was also pleased with that.

Only one thing I wish I could recall: How to manually set the RPMs on the electric engines. I used to do that, I think it was in GWX. You drag the dial needle manually and set the e-machinen to 50 RPM, very quiet. For hunting wabbits. Anyone recall how to do that and can it be done in LSH2015? I did try the free roam view but was unable to manipulate the e-machine telegraph.

My Kaleun, Albert Keller, is in base on Christmas Eve before his second war patrol. A nice timely coincidence. After posting this I shall go spend some time with my wife and watch some Christmas Eve shows. Our favourite is the 1950's version of Christmas Carol with Alastair Sims. I have a colourized version on DVD somewhere but I shall instead watch it on Netflix.

Good evening, all! :Kaleun_Salute:

A very Merry Christmas to you and the family my friend.

A very successful first mission by the sounds of it.

You might like to take a look at the hsie PDF manual and see if you want to ramp your game up a bit.
SH3Commander also has a number of its own game play settings and also its own PDF manual.
When you add in as well the SH3 game play settings these 3 optional additions makes LSH3-2015 become very much more playable and exciting.

Hello Peter,

I've gone into HSIE and enabled all options except the ones for NYGM and GWX; I am not sure if those are only to be clicked on if using those mods. So, for fear of breaking my game I have not enabled them. [Edit: I have just consulted the manual and it says they are only for use if using one of those mods.]

I forgot to mention one interesting bit about my patrol in my earlier post. With a stern shot I fired at a ship in the outer column of the convoy. The torpedo tracked under a field of debris from the earlier sinking, in the midst of which were several rafts and lifeboats. Just as the torpedo was travelling under the survivors it prematurely detonated and the unfortunate men were flung out of the water. I'm sure if this had been real life they would not have survived the blast due to shock wave trauma. This was the first time I ever witnessed such a thing in the game. After all of these years the game still manages to surprise.

Another question I have concerns using the recognition manual. Is there a way, a shortcut I seem to remember, of having the manual open automatically to the ship you have locked in your scope or UZO view? And does this work with auto-target, manual or both?

[Edit: I have been going through the manual for HSIE. I now realize that the options I chose to enable beyond the defaults were not, in fact enabled. I used my diesels at setting 5 for extended periods and did not get the warning from the chief about possible damage. Other options that were not enabled also effected my patrol. Therefore, I shall delete this current career and begin again. I don't mind overmuch; it is all part of the learning curve.]

If you are using the oxygen patch you will need to change one of the dials.
HSIE O2-Gauges v2 > LSH3 Compatible > Enable JSGME. (http://www.mediafire.com/download/8k7blqyc1y8belz/O2-Gauges+v2.zip)
This is how I have set my Hsie.
https://i.postimg.cc/sfk5Kppb/2-New-HSIE-settings-patrol-2.jpg

I have reduced the amount of oxygen available
You will not be able to run at "FLank speed" for very long when the "Diesel Damage Fix" is enabled as you will nedd to stop and make a repair.
The Hsie manual explains all this and with diagrams as well.

Another question I have concerns using the recognition manual. Is there a way, a shortcut I seem to remember, of having the manual open automatically to the ship you have locked in your scope or UZO view? And does this work with auto-target, manual or both? I have not forgotten this, but I do not have an immediate answer just yet.

Hello again Peter,

I am pleased to report that all is running well. I did install the oxygen mod as instructed to work with hsie. On my Erpro run I ran at full speed until the diesels were damaged, then repaired them and finished the patrol. In patrol I did a long submerged run and the oxygen dial ran down and I got the O2 percentage reports.

I have just left port in my VIIB and saved and exited in the North Sea, as family are now arriving for the day.

All the best and thanks for your help.
