The self-dumbing down continues. The stupidifying of arts follows consistently on its heels.

was declared worth 120 thousand. Maybe in Somalia. But Basel...?
Edit. Why not. Thinking of it a second time, I remember the living costs in Switzerland and how much you pay for even just a cup of coffee in a cafe. So maybe the price for bananas somewhat matches.
True story, The other day we ordered pizza, my son ate all his but left the crusts arranged in a perfect circle in the box - out on the table. I asked him 'hey Luke is this meant to be a work modern art?' he said 'yes' So I told him, 'ok cool, so put it in the bin where modern art belongs'. he laughed and threw it in the trash.
Passing on my values through humor :D

It would've been sooo much better if he'd been wearing a gorilla suit

Some one needs to Meme that scene in doctor who where he takes a teary & overwhelmed Van Gogh to a gallery to show him how valued his work becomes,
Just edit it to have him crying at bananas taped walls and some other modern crap :)

Very moving
There's nothing new about the banana in art, though:

Years ago, a box set of The Velvet Underground's albums, outakes, and demos was released that duplicated the iconic banana cover with the banana having a peel off feature; the cover was one of two high profile art covers Andy Warhol created for LP albums, with the second being The Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers album for which Warhol created a closeup of a guy (and, no, it is definitely not Jagger, but Warhol never revealed the model's identity) in a pair of jeans with a real, functioning zipper, which created a lot of headaches for the manufacturers and resulted in the album being banned in some stores since, once the zipper was pulled down, there was an interior picture of a model wearing jockey shorts...

Art is dead....
Modern art is a bloody crass joke.

I remember the peel-off banana but not the zipper
Another problematic album sleeve was Roxy Music's "Country Life", which I recall had to be sold in a brown paper wrapper in the US so that pubescent male fans wouldn't be corrupted. Of course they just tore the wrapper off and got down to business:

IIRC, the working zipper was only available on a limited number of the original albums because of the expense of manufacturing the covers, as well as the problems with censorship and packaging (no pun intended) problems caused by the metal zippers; they caused damage to the albums themselves, as well as to albums shipped or stored in front or behind the Stones album...
I do recall not a few of my girlfriends and lady friends being somewhat very captivated by the zipper when they saw my copy of the album...

Hey if you scroll up to the top of the page you'll see that Van Gogh also fetched up in WW2... as a U-Boat Skipper :haha:
