Likely it's been posted, but ran across the SS Wahoo web page on the MacKinnon website (http://emackinnon.com/)
I started reading the Wahoo's war patrols (http://www.mackinnon.org/wahoo-home.html#warreps) and spent a couple of hours reading the unedited words of Cdr Mush Morton as he described his daily job, encounted Japanese vessels and watched his torpedoes go walkabout.
Using Google Earth's search function was helpful in "following" Morton's missions and the effort should help "immersion" when playing SH4. The prose is certainly simpler than O'Kane's or Beach's WWII submarine books, but that direct simplicity really struck home.
