I'm gonna post my OCD results here of what I found out while changing settings to get that right look and ride of my sub.

The files you need to consider are the following ...
your_boat.sim where your_boat is your class of boat.
and your_boat.cfg same as above.

In the SIM file you want to change the ...
unit_sub/unit_ship/obj_hydro/Surfaced and the Submerged nodes.
In these nodes is a draught setting and displacement.
Surface draught is the setting in meters your sub rides when you click surface the boat.
Submerged draught is the setting in meters when the boat is considered underwater decks awash. Not necessarily the entire conning tower.
The relationship must be proper, in other words if you want to ride higher you need to adjust both settings so that at 30 feet your decks are awash.
Why? The boat changes from diesel to electric the moment you go under the submerged setting.
At 30 feet with the proper settings you can run diesels and just have the conning tower exposed.
Makes sense since from what I have studied, the air intake contains a diffuser and water separator and is in the sail section.

The displacement has an effect as well as this influences how the boat rides, dives and surfaces. Too little surface displacment and the boat never stays afloat, too much submerged displacment and the boat never surfaces. the calculation for blowing ballast are based on these.

Here are my settings ...
Surface draught = 5.14
Submerged draught = 7.0
Surfaced displacement = 1800 (makes sense since I ride lower)

Submerged displacement = 2415

For your_boat.cfg
You want to make sure whatever you chose for the surface draught is also the same setting for ...
SurfaceDepth=5.14;meters

This setting in the cfg is used to calculate the display on your depth meter and also "put" you in the proper place in the water.
Forget this and you run the risk of hitting the bottom in shallows.

Cool!

Are those values viable for the stock 1.4/1.5 game?

Yep. Just make sure you alter all the subs you want to play.
It will take on patrol or in port.
