Photo Recon

I was jusrt handed an order to do a photo recon.


I dont know how that is done. Is there a camera icon? Do I have to surface? Can I stay underwater?


Any tips welcome. Weighing anchor now.

Go to the indicated spot, raise your observation scope, choose a ship target, click L to lock on, then the photography button should be lit. Click and you're done, unless you decide to sink your target while you're at it.

Sometimes you may have to photograph 2 or more ships. keep taking pics until you get the checkmark.

I have often succeeded by starting the search for targets 5000 yds from the star and closing if necessary.

As posted, find a target, lock the scope on it. Not all ships may be the photo target and the camera icon will remain dark if that's the case. If you've locked on one of the desired targets the camera icon illuminates and pressing it takes the pic. Repeat on other targets till the mission complete icon shows in the upper RH corner...

i ran into a problem that my recon mission don't get accomplished. I was given a task to photograph all ships in a Ishinomaki harbor. I arrived there in heavy fog at night, so i waited at periscope depth there untill the fog was gone. Had no sonar contacts going out or into the harbor as i waited for good visual. I raised my scope, encountered only two ships there (one Subchaser and one Gunboat), i took pictures of them both but the recon task is still showing incomplete :wah:
I also used the free camera to see if i missed any ships, but no - there are only this two ships in that harbor docked

yes, that can and does happen.
we are trying to eliminate that in FOTRSU by placing ships purposely into the photo recon missions.

as far as the other major mega-mods and Stock are concerned you can either live with it or mod the mission by adding the proper ship to the harbor so that you can get credit for the photo mission.

you can overcome the lack of accomplishing the photo mission by sinking ships.

btw: about modding the mission. I found that mission, it is called "Photo Honshu 02" located in "Data\Campaigns\Campaign\PatrolObjectives". If i open it in Mission Editor, there is only the Zone in that mission with no ships at all :hmmm:
Have i to add ships there to get it working?

yes, exactly that.
add enemy ships of the proper category (merchant, capital, whatever) to the harbor that you are attempting to recon. i always like to add a Yamato....moored beam-on to the entrance.:D
use your stern tubes so you can make a quick get-away.
