Other wise known as Arte Johnson, whose comedy performing career lasted over 50 years.
He lost his battle with bladder and prostrate cancer today.

"Verrry interrresting... und verrry, verrry sad. In a cast of some of the best comic character actors assembled for Rowan & martin's Laugh-In, Arte Johnson was a stand-out performer. Whether it was as the Dirty Old Man Tyrone, a timid Russian immigrant, or a slyly spying Nazi soldier, Arte nailed each character and demonstrated impressive comedy chops and timing...

One of my favorites of the Gladys and Tyrone sketches went something like this:
(Tyrone approaches the bench where Gladys is already seated, takes a seat, forcing Gladys to scoot down to the far end followed by Tyrone)
Tyrone: Will you call me sweetheart?
(Whap!!)
Tyrone: Will you call me darling?
(Whap!!)
Tyrone: Will you call me beloved?
(Whap!!)
(indignant, Gladys gets up and strides off in a huff)
Tyrone (slowly falling off the bench): Will you call me an ambulance?...
It is noted in the obituary he is survived by hi wife of 51 years, Gisela; I remember seeing him with her on some talk shows and the odd juxtaposition of the diminutive Arte and his tall, statuesque bride; that they remained married so long is rare in Hollywood and it was good to see Arte enjoyed a good and long private life...
RIP, Arte, thanks all the laughs and wishing you peace in your repose...

I remember him from when the Rowan & martin's Laugh-In show was aired here in the UK.
RIP
