What's required to transfer bases? I'm on my third patrol out of Fremantle despite trying to get to Pearl since relocating to Surabaya. I had no issues last campaign with GFO but this stock campaign refuses every request.

I haven't tracked exactly when the Pearl to Australia reassignment becomes available, but early in the war I was in Pearl and tried after every mission to get Fremantle, but transfers weren't available.

Some time in late '42/early '43 the game reassigned me to Brisbane, and after a mission there, I could choose Fremantle or Pearl. Since mid '43 I have been using Fremantle and transfers to either Pearl or Brisbane have been available.

Transfers can only happen when the submarine type you are currently driving is available at another base. :salute:

Hmm, I had created a Balao in both Manila and PH at career's beginning, so there should be at least one available. I'm not sure what's going on.

Just realized I did not include the hacks added to stock (not sure if they qualify as mods) as intended: essentially adjusted the relevant data files to start a 1945-level Balao in 1941, Mk16s and 2x 5" guns included. It's just so much fun catching those invasion convoys in the monsoon while their overeager escorts have charged too far ahead. Yamamoto may have learned his lesson that distant support is no support at all, but these guys are remarkably dense.

Of course, the penalty is all those long slogs up and down the Australian coast.

You would have to add that Balao boat to the CareerStart.upc and Flotillas.upc files in the Data / UPCData / UPCCampaignData folder, as well as assign missions in the Flotillas.upc file. The boat is probably already in there (except the CareerStart, but just copy and paste from later in the file), so you'd just have to change the dates of appearance. You could probably copy mission assignments from one of the other boats, so that you get some appropriate assignments for where you are. Just be sure to change the boat and mission numbers to be sequential. Look at the other boats in the Flotillas.upc file for examples.
[Flotilla 1.UserPlayerUnitType 1.Objective 1]
ID= PH1Obj1
NameDisplayable= East China Sea
AvailabilityInterval=1942-01-01, NULL
ObjectiveCode= East China Sea
The "orange" text is what might need to be changed for your boat, as well as the ObjectiveCode and NameDisplayable, especially since the SubSoWesPac boats didn't go to the East China Sea until really late in the war, when based at Subic Bay. :salute:

Aha... that makes sense... the trick is knowing which boats are available where at what time... or jump into editing the game files, which I have done ONCE to reduce the number of A6Ms pestering me thousands of miles from land...

piece of cake... :hmmm:

Make yourself a "mini-mod" set-up, with say "Early CenPac Balao", with a Data folder below that, a UPCData folder below that, and a UPCCampaignData folder below that, just like the game's folder structure. Then copy the game's "CareerStart.upc" and "Flotillas.upc" files into the "Early CenPac Balao" structure, and edit those files. Put the whole folder structure in the MODS folder, and activate it with JSGME. Test it. Cuss yourself for messing something up, exit the game - if it didn't crash - and use JSGME to deactivate your little mod. Edit some more. Lather, rinse, repeat... Just follow the examples of the rest of the boats in the files, and while it looks complex, it really isn't. It's just that one line looks like the next after a while... :doh: :salute:
