View Full Version : Escorts Impervious to Torps?

Very strange. Playing TWoS for couple months now. Came across a convoy (Happy Times) with escort so saved game. Normally I shoot around escorts but the escort screen layout had a large gap between the starboard forward escort and the others on starboard side, so seeing opportunity to take out this escort would give me time/room plenty to make every torp count. Set my G7e to 1 meter and impact fuze and shot at escort at range 1300M. Torp approaches escort hull at nearly 90 deg AOB and passes right through hull for a miss (had event camera on). I reloaded game twice and achieved same setup with same result although last time I changed fuze to magnetic. Should I close in, engage with my deck gun and board 'em in the smoke?
Good news is my torp always ends up smacking a T2 oiler on the other side.

Right trough the hull?! What was the type of that destroyer? Screenshot? That gamesave would also be quite handy...

I notice that myself, I have similar problems each time when I save game in presence of enemy units. I suspect this will screw up enemy AI and its characteristics, and I would not be surprised if OP's story is just another side effect of it.
Since then, I avoid these problems by saving game without units in sight.
OP didn't tell the weather conditions, but in high wave situations I still have the problem of torpedos passing under target over their fair share of being duds, wether I set them very deep or very high, magnetic or impact, that doesn't matter, they miss most of the time. They cannot all be duds, maybe something related to DynEnv 2.9 ?

I may go back and take the time to reload the game and ID the escort - it was a 2-stacker and not a corvette. The weather was moderate. However, I think I will write this up for now to saving in the presence of a convoy (although the T2 didn't mind eating my torp). I saved it when I picked them up on sound, then I closed in. I remember the issues one could face in SH3 saving a game with AI units within 30km or so. My time is not my own often, so when I discover a convoy I will usually save game at first contact so I can conduct the attack later when I can enjoy it and immerse myself. Thanks all for your input!
