View Full Version : Strange Merchant behavior

I am using the LSH 2015 mod and observed a strange behavior on a 4 merchant convoy during my second patrol. Weather is rough with 12m/s wind and light fog. The merchants that I encounter are behaving strangely. They are almost by each minute changing course while remaining on a general course. They couldn’t have spotted me yet.

So my question is: are they just zig-zagging? Or is the game modeling that merchants are having difficulties staying on course during rough weather?

Thanks,

Henning

Could be due to the crew class of the merchants if poor or novice they would have a hard time keeping there position in the Convoy even more so in rough seas in the Atlantic in the Winter Months

Ships in a group also have a distance set between them. Sometimes, if the distance is not large enough between certain ships, their "collision avoidance" will kick in. The bigger the ship, the sooner this happens. You will then see the ships wander all over the place, as they attempt to "avoid" each other. Another thing we just found in the SH4 Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate Edition is the Group MaxSpeed versus the speed that some of the waypoints for a ship / convoy route are set to. Anything set to above the Group's MaxSpeed can cause all sorts of issues with convoy keeping. The slowest ship in the group determines the Group's MaxSpeed. :salute:

Thanks a lot for your responses! That helps - in any case, there are all now sinking!
