The author Montemayor has an excellent series of battle recreations on his YouTube site (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX7katl3DVmch4D7LSvqbVQ)

I saw this too and it was excellent. Really showed the Japanese dilemma for what it was.

Very well done. I thought there was a difference in the dive bombers' bombs though also, in that the land-target bombs were high-explosive, while the ship-target bombs were armor-piercing? Was it "Shattered Sword" where I read that, or some other interpretation? Also, the DD chasing the sub ended up "leading" the 2nd group (or was it the first??) of Dauntless back to the Kido Butai group after the DD got finished chasing the sub. One other little point would be the two carriers involved in the Coral Sea Battle that couldn't make the Midway journey due to damage and aircraft / pilot losses, so there were only four carriers, instead of the originally planned six... all sorts of details at play... Midway would have received a "Nagumo's Haircut" with one strike, while the reserve group would have been big enough to deal with the US CV groups - if they could have taken off - if there had been six CV... :salute:

I think that really highlights the value of keeping up pressure on your enemy. If the US hadn't kept fighting in those initial months, attempting to rebuild and regroup first, then the Japs would have taken the lot at Midway.
