Tambor - never happened before but when submerged, I do not lose any battery power, at all. Now I have Drum and same problem. So going to have to bin the career and start again, shame really - I had some good hits.

Have you set your "Options" in the Captain's Office before starting your Career Mission? That's by moussing over the "Radio" on the left hand top shelf of the bookcase. The "Options" menu page on the Main Menu screen does not effect what you do in a Career start mission. Nor does it set the "Options" (Realism) settings in one of the Single Missions. You have to set them within each type of game you play before starting the mission.

Think you missed the point, if nothing has been changed it needs to be changed - when you start a new career it defaults to EASY, the lowest difficulty setting which has unlimited fuel and unlimited battery.

As CapnScurvy said, click the radio at upper left, that opens this menu. You can change the difficulty from low to a higher setting, and/or customize it by checking/unchecking the boxes.

This has to be done in this office for a career, but it's not cast in stone at the beginning - you can change settings between patrols, so if you still have the save game return to base, end patrol, then change the settings in the office before starting the next patrol.

I've had to restart plenty of careers due to forgetting about this. Now it's pretty much second nature to double check it at the start of a career.

Well that's what I'm saying, if you don't change anything at all when starting a new career you'll have unlimited fuel and battery because that's the default setting for a new career. Again, you don't have to start a new career if you notice something you forgot to change, or decide it's too easy or too hard with the settings you chose, you can finish the patrol and change settings before starting the next patrol. Or, if you just started you can exit to main menu, load game "autosave when leaving base" 1 or 2. Whatever you set becomes the new default unless you change it again.

What I did was open the text file \Data\Cfg\GameplaySettings.cfg;

[Easy]

I changed the [Hard] list so dud torpedoes = false, manual targeting = false, then I can just select HARD each time and I don't have to customize it since it's already customized in the cfg file. At one time;

I edited that datablock to set everything except event camera to zero, and changed event camera to 100 so I got full renown with my custom settings, I never liked the event camera anyway. Changed that part back to the default settings a few years ago, because with all my resupply bases I generally sink 250 to 400 thousand tons per patrol anyway. 50% of way more than you need is still insane, you quickly run out of things to spend the renown on.

the strange thing is its never happened before - since 2007. So why now. OK, heading off the checking oil levels too :doh:

Well in Sniper. I checked those settings and, for some reason, normal, (which is my usual setting) has the same as easy in 50% of the cases, including battery; this coincided with the introduction of a new MSI GeForce RTX 2070 card to my machine. Three things then went wrong - SH4 but good now. Sound, removed my speaker drivers and inserted its own, and removal of mouse, which I am working on by moving it to another usb port at the back of the machine instead of in a desktop extension multi port.

SH4 may be just coincidence; we shall see, about to start new career having added RSRDC and a bit or three.

edit: new career; normal setting, took on Jap invasion force off Philippines, and ended up having to break off due to low battery!! bingo! Got 3 mogami before retiring.

Nope. New graphics cards are strange.

I sadly bricked my beloved XP machine after buying a $50 2gb card after it uninstalled all my human interface drivers. So, no keyboard, no mouse. No longer have the factory reset disk, Dell/Alienware has no record of my purchase so I could find out the make and model and download it myself.

I almost cried myself to sleep. I loved that thing and I paid $50 to murder it.

Prob with XP is its no longer supported, so I think the card could not find anything and what it did find was unrecognised.

Then it was listed wrong. It was supposed to support XP. I made very sure of these little things. Oh well, it's been over a year or so since I did that.

Absolutely no excuse why a video card would uninstall HIDs. And sometimes I do half wonder if I bought something malicious.
