Not seeing any ships but DD's and Neutrals...doing Northwestern Approaches

Does time compression effect ship contacts ?
I am doing a lot of x256 now seeing I have spent 5 hours and spotted nothing but DD's and Neutrals

Interesting convoys should travel on precise routes. It's possible to fire-up special charts on your map, also the general convoy traffic charts, this should help to have a 'generic' idea of where to find - or better say: have a chance to find - convoys, enemy ships etc.

Depending on the date, NW of Ireland is prime to find convoys, or E from Bergen-Trondheim in Norway. Or NW of Gibraltar straight. But be sure to avoid shallow water locations for the attack.

Don't forget that once you are finished patrolling your area you are free to patrol wherever you deem it useful, so do it.

Sorry, I did not post enough info now that I look at my OP.
Time is DEC 5th 39...playing TWO's. once in my patrol area I got a radio msg to hunt in the AN51-53 area for a few days....got so bored finally went in and killed a few DD's.
I had to return due to Fuel...came back and was all around the red arch from
Lock Ewe up to ice land not a dam thing. Convoy Reports(set to 500) but time I get in area they are long gone. I did kill an armored cruiser. Now on my way back to refuel again. got a report of a convoy as I rounded the north Island Above Scapa Flow. Found that LARGE 15 ship convoy on east side of Britian.
Will see how I do tonight....

I can find the convoy's out of my area but not in...weird

Well, historically, there weren't convoys in the North Sea along the East coast of England at 1939 - and never after either I think, so it's ok if you only encounter single merchands and patrols. Convoys will happen towards the polar route directed to Russia and back passing North of Scapa Flow from NW Ireland later in the war. And Norway operation will begin later, mid 1940 IIRC.
Actually, patrolling the East coast of England is very challenging because of shallow waters and a lot of patrols - very dangerous and all meager targets. If you have managed to sink a lot of ships without being intercepted then you have played well, congrats :D

Technically, SH5 works so that in your patrol area the chances of encounters are increased. What you will encounter however may be random each time with the exception of some historical scripts added which should be constant.
Then, secondary missions with a waypoint are also scripted and constant (Scapa Flow for example).
