I totally remembered that i have access to an amazing Laserengraver and some really nice material, so i figured why not cut some tools for Wolfpack since i'm playing it quite a bit so i made this and it works really awesome i just had to share:

It's 200mm in diameter and cut with Maple Veneer
Here's a small youtube video:

Works completely without hinges and has almost no wiggle room so it's pretty accurate, easy to use. :D

How did you put the markings on?
In discord Wolfpack General channel he showed pictures of the intermediate laser burn phases. He used a "SPeedy 300 from trotec"

Exactly this has been done using an industry grade trotec laser engraver speedy 300 with a 60w lasertube.

Yikes. that's some impressive marking.
Technical question, why do you need three independent scales? Is the third to measure possible attack angles from an enemy?
The smallest disk has the AOB scale. See both sides going up to 180 degrees. So if you align the observed AOB, either port or starboard, against the relative bearing (direction of periscope/UZO/TBT) then you can figure the target course. (assuming own course was set with the middle disk beforehand)

I made a better Version out of Walnut
https://i.imgur.com/bJCLJJD.png
with a written tutorial on it, but i had to paint the engravings with black paint so they are visible, readability is not that good in dim light. But i could technically produce this now in bigger quantities, if there is demand from people i could send these worldwide for a certain charge but i'm not sure anyone has a use =)
I suggest you contact Onkel Neal to what extent you can advertise making these disks (in the relevant threads). Maybe there is even a place for it in the Subsim Store.

So i've added a finished product for the moment to Etsy:
https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/694598285/protractor-navigation-aid-out-of-maple?ref=shop_home_active_1
It's a finished version with very nice markings + a rotating acrylic aid on top for front / aft lead
How would i go about it now to advertise it within the rules of subsim ? (messaged Uncle and asked him so i'm not breaking any rules)

Sir ::
Your work is absolutely incredible. Can u make them out of plastic? Are u going to offer them for sale? If so, I want one:<)
I made one out of .. I think it was thin card board.... I used it in SH5. I can not find it nor can I find the instructions I followed to make it..... I think ... it has been at least two years.... I made clean copies of a disk from online and cut to size.... secured in the center with a file folder pin so as to allow the wheels to move freely.... not any where near the quality of yours:<)

Hi Roland, i will make an Acrylic Version tonight and see how it turns out! But yeah definitely can be done, just need to adjust how the material is being engraved but that's about it.

I am interested g but need to know how much in USD and shipping costs... can I use visa?
Roland
I just placed an order. You can pay with Visa, among other creditcards and Paypal. On the Etsy product page at the bottom right you can change your country/language and currency. If you put an article in you shoppingbasket you can also check the shipping rate.

Are you still going ahead with a combined RAOBF and Attack Ring for Etsy? I'd buy!

Absolutely but this one is a bit more complex. But DEFINITELY doing it.
Hi. The products on Etsy look really impressive. I saw on your youtube channel (I think) there's short videos of them, around 20 to 30 seconds per video. I'd be interested in seeing slightly longer videos, perhaps 5 minutes or so, showing what you can do with them if possible please?
I've wondered what all the pins on the RAOBF disc are for, but seeing the attack disc in action would be interesting as well.
Great work, thanks.

I will definitely do that as soon as i find the time, maybe tomorrow or the day after!
Great thanks for that. I probably wouldn't be ordering anything for a few weeks so whenever is convenient for you, but I'd seen you mention possible tutorials before, so I wanted to upvote the idea :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up:
@Tbaac: The vertical line at the top (90 degrees), is the place where you set the observed mast height when looking with high power zoom. The lower one, at 14.5 degrees, is for observed height at low power zoom. Then you can read the range on the outside scale of the middle moving disk, opposite to the target'srecognition manual mast-height.
The line of pins in between is to read the speed in knots, after the time of passage through periscope/UZO line is aligned to ships length. (length is outermost scale, time in seconds is on adjacent scale.) You have to be stopped to use it, OR only moving forward or backwards.
Thanks Pisces. I might need to read it a few more times to fully get that though I think :D
I found this post, I think maybe that's explaining the same thing that you were above Pisces:
RAOBF Cheat Sheet in subsim forum (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=236013)
and that although this is in SH5, the principle is about the same?
So, a RAOBF is for calculating Range and AOB.
Is the item on this thread (Absolute/Relative/AOB Dial) the same thing as an Attack Disc or are they different? Looking at the first item in Solution Solver 2.3, that looks similar to the Absolute/Relative/AOB Dial.
How's it used please?
(Sorry for the daft questions, thanks)
edit: Actually, I see Gutted has put a video up on this thread so maybe that'll help explain it a bit http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=240575
Thanks though, I like the idea of the wooden discs.
Well, it is called the "Range and Angle On Bow Finder" for a reason. ;)
The cheat sheet is exactly how it should be used. It's use in the Silenthunter games predates SH5 by years.
But it doesn't seem to explain the other red marks lower on the angle scale. But I just did.
