Not a new thread and probably done to death. Started trying to play SH5 and it's driving me mad with it's bugs.
Tried setting realism but it defaults to medium no matter what I try (tips on this site). Also crashes to windows everytime I save.
My question is: -
Is it worth me downloading mods? Would they fix the bugs?
I would really like to play the game as is for now but it's so frustrating I'm ready to quit.
Cheers

The Wolves of steel fixes a lot of the bugs and makes it a great game. That bug witht he realism...
Before you start your game, set the realism to what you want, then leave the options and go right to your game... It will stick!

Let's put it this way: it is not worth to play without downloading the mods.

I can understand your frustration as you expect to be able to play a game that works, unfortunately the stock game is heavily bugged and is unplayable in that format.
SH5 is totally dependent on the essential TDW's Generic File Patcher application which removes a lot of bugs and fixes a host of other problems.
The only way to play SH5 is with "The Wolves of Steel" mega mod which is 100% ctd free.

Yes its worth it.
I have just got back into SH5 after about 8 years. Installed the TWOS mod and the patched and have no issues at all.
No CTD's..I am just terrible at hitting targets lol

Echo everything above. I just got back into SH5 (after playing SH4 for a week) and after installing the Wolves mod, i was like :o - talk about floored!!! honestly esp after playing SHIV I was really floored. Little things like seeing other uboats, seeing enemy submarines, being able to move within the sub, etc - SH5 is almost the perfect sim (with the mod)!! Now all i can play is SH5. currently on my third patrol now, off the coast of england (oct 1939) - 3 ships sunk previously.
I had trouble trying to figure out the auto torpedo calc.
One thing though, in vanilla SH5 there is an attack map which you can use to match the torpedo lines (ie numbers 1-3) vs the ship being attacked but for me its not there and i have to use the main map. Is there a way to bring it back?

TAI visibility is configurable through TDW's options file editor (you'll find it in data/applications folder).

Thanks fellas. That's a lot of info. I shall work my way through it. So much in the vanilla game that is missing in mine so I hope to get it working.

Hi D
Unfortunately the stock/vanilla game is unplayable.
I hope to get it working Not possible as the the Uplay Game Launcher a separate part of the SH5 installation corrupts the tonnage bar, campaign icons, and ending the campaigns.
The bugs are a Ubisoft problem.
You also need TDW's Generic File Patcher application installed as it is essential for SH5
