I meant the TV program. :D
The actress Katherine Helmond who played the character Jessica Tate died. She was 89 years old.
Her career lasted about 50 years

we haven't seen soap in the bilge in 4 years now, but since we all smell the same, no one notices

I remember seeing reruns of the series. The Tate's and Campbell's. I also remember a very young Billy Crystal in it as well. As I remember, the series was very funny and the cast had a great chemistry.
Rest in peace Katherine and thanks for the laughs.

That was on years ago in the UK... I only vaguely recall it but she is the one character I do clearly remember

Before watching soaps I will rather stop frying squirrels.
Currently enjoying, since over a year now, fifth season of this old series, Northern Exposure, which was released completely on German-dubbed DVD just two years ago or so over here, Now that is TV that does not give me the feeling of a complete waste of time. In Germany they broadcasted just the first season ith 8 episode over 20 years ago - usually at 2 a.m. in the norning. The demand was there amongst audience, it praised it. but the broadcaster said it did not fly. Well, at 2 a.m. in the morning, what did they expect?

Soap was a parody of the Soap opera genre. Wife and I use to watch it all the time. It was hilarious and had some real plot twists. Alien abduction was one of them. It also featured a young Billy Crystal as Jodie Dallas, one of the first openly gay characters on US television. Chuck Campbell another character seldom spoke unless it was through his ventriloquist dummy Bob.
R.I.P. Katherine.

I caught it the first time it ran.
Chuck Campbell another character seldom spoke unless it was through his ventriloquist dummy Bob.
"Bob's a dummy!"
"Dumb or smart, they're our children, and we love them."
Yeah, Helmond was a favorite.
