I'm trying to confirm an old issue. I believe the boats could receive a radio station as far as 110km. Is that true? FM is about 65km. Basically when I play I keep my radio off until I am about 110km from land. I understand atmospheric issue play a role. I'm just talking in general.
Can someone confirm this?

Generally speaking, with FM radio that sounds about right. Though using very low frequencies boats could recieve messages from HQ "all around the world" and even submerged. But if you're talking about listening to commercial broadcasting then your rule is correct.

Thank you
According to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium_frequency), MF radio stations (this was the most popular type in 40s) can be heard even hundreds of miles from transmitter, although this is highly dependant on time of day, terrain type, solar activity etc.
So it seems you might be able to, for example, listen to BBC while patrolling Denmark Strait, but it is certainly not guaranteed.
