Every video I have that I made for SH3. They work for SH5 too!

I had a few requests to place all videos in one spot so here you are.

These videos were made with intentions of teaching to a simpler audience. They are my methods. I understand there are other ways to calculate these methods, but these are mine.

Let me know how you like them.

Great videos, thank you very much Bstanko6!
Thanks to you I finally took some time to learn how to use the RAOBF disk and I'm amazed how good tool that is!

I've always struggled with AoB and while map plot is a sure way to get it, it takes time. Since I've experimented with using tick marks and recognition manual to calculate the AoB on fast situations, but using a calculator just kills it for me. Now I don't have to!

@Mussalo...
Glad you like the videos. The RAOBF wheel is one of the coolest, simplest, and quickest tools to use. And it existed!!! I use it 100% of the time, with the exception of convoys where I have time to plot and plan. Thanks for the comments.

In many cases, the ship ID book, which is mandatory for using raobf, is no longer able to be used; incorrect ships, etc. What is the raobf scenario then; can it still be used ? Or does installing magui's mod update/correct the ship ID book too ?

I have no idea what you mean. The RAOBF works independent from any Rec Book. Just input the mast height or ship length. I would not understand why you would have an issue. If the rec book you are using is wrong then that is an entirely different issue that can’t be fixed here.

One gets the mast height and ship length from the book to have the raobf work if I understood the video correctly.
So if the book info. is wrong, so would be the resulting raobf inputs. I've read threads where some SH3 mods change the book info., hence the question about does magus's mod too.

Correct. If the book is wrong the RAOBF will not help you.

Get a better book!

Is the book in magui f the stock one ? Looks like a fun mod to try.

It should be. It is only a GUI mod not a ship mod. It should not change your rec book. If you use a ship mod that adds or changes ships, it should come with a rec for that mod.

Simple, thorough and well presented. They really are worth a look.

Thanks, but that is why I love dead reckoning, because of the errors! That’s why I love real navigation. That immersive feel that I have humans doing work and making mistakes. But I appreciate you showing that for those that may not want error.

Engaging and Disengaging Motor Shafts Properly!

I tested this mod extensively and found not only fuel consumption is significantly lowered, it appeared to charge the batteries a bit quicker. I compared results against the clock in historical missions with the same weather conditions going one third speed.

AOB Simplified

A simplified version of my AOB tutorial for SH3. There are only 5 angles we need to remember, every other angle can be estimated visually. Hope you like it! This was a great video to make because I never went to this historical mission, and hit the ship first time! I must know what I am talking about!

nice videos but in my opinion is too use Dick O'kane targeting solution which it's easy and 100% success

there is a great video on youtube about this solution made by RockinRobbins
it's made in SH4 but that solution works in each SH game... u onlye need the speed and the target heading if u know both of them u position your boat at 90% to the target Heading.... easy method and very efficient ....

bstanko6

@Sjizzle...
You are absolutely correct. I just wanted to show the guys that an AOB can be found visually at any degree with simple rules of thumb, and we both know that a 90 deg angle is not always possible. I think the more tools at our disposal is better. Plus with the Dick Okane method the video shows map contacts which I never use. my methods are at 100% realism, so my errors in plotting a target course can mean I have to visually get AOB.

Sometimes ships can come out of fog, or if we are attacking destroyers, we need a quicker method to get the AOB. Plus I do this method most days, and I have a great time doing it!

nice video keep up the good work...i am working now on magUI real navigation where u don't have the navigator to mark your position on the map... u need to calculate your position via celestial fix using the sextan and dead reckoning :D pain in the a$$ if u mess up the calculation :D

It's easier to just hover over the chart with your pencil tool. Once your mouse is in the right position for the coorinates, push E to hide the chart and then click.

No need to play with angle tools or draw lines across the chart.

Hi Bstanko6,
Have you a video in your collection that could help me in situations where I need to make very fast torpedo solutions - within seconds - because the target moves very fast and is close (too close to waste time making long plottings and calculations on a map)?

Here I have the most shoot missings and trouble to figure out good torpedo solutions when using manual TDC :)
Thanks very much,

XS

@XenonSurf... I currently do not. In those situations, if I really want that ship, I try to identify if possible so I can get a max speed from the rec manual. I look at the stern wake to see how 'fast' the ship is going.... which is not exact mind you. I try to set up a salvo at a higher degree... and then pray.

I had a troop ship flying past me, and I missed. It happens... but when I hit, it's pure love!

As far as solution, you just go with instinct. That takes time and practice. Set up for a quick 90 degree attack, and adjust last second. Forget range if you don't have time.

Good luck!

Thats' what I have imagined, there are situation where planing goes out of the window, you need improvisation and luck. I will try to remind your advice and put it in practise...

Hope it helps. I have been playing since SH1. Instinct comes with time when you’ve been through a gazillion different scenarios.

I tell people in situations like you describe... learn AOB identification by heart! It’s the one skill you can learn by looking at photos, and not even play the game! My AOB simplified video explains how we really only need to recognize 5 degrees, and differentiate port/starboard.

If you can develop a sense of AOB by sight... you will cut solution calculation by ridiculous amounts of time!

Exactly. So much of the info. that complex methods use to generate, can easily be done via eyeball observation.
Figure out course and speed via visual limits tracking, setup a fast 90, done.
