My memory sucks and sometimes it does it(and now it happened again)

The problem with my memory means that within 5-10 years I can expect to be blind on my left eye

For about 2½-3 years I was living with an untreated eye disease Glaucoma.

In the afternoon and in the evening I had problems with my eyes, said to myself Tomorrow I will talk with my doctor so he can give me anreference to an ophthalmologist…..well next morning my eyes was ok and I had forgot everything about last nights or evenings problems with my eyes.

The same goes with my stomach

For years I had daily pain heavy pain in my stomach……
In the evening, some hours after dinner I had severe pain-suicide was an option....next day….everything ok and I had forgot everything about my pain evening before.
Now I know…milk or lactose and tomatoes is absolutely no go here.

When it comes to history and science one of my two favorite subject.

I have or I guess I have a huge knowledge when it comes to History of Religions-when posting some comments my head is filled with knowledge that I want to write in this comment….gone(not entirely more likely hidden)

Same goes with science about the univers.

This have been my problems for about 25-30 years or so.
My doctors can't find anything that could give them or me an solution to why my memory is bad and sometime very bad..

These problems have made me change my life into an automatic-living-style.(can't find a better word for it)

When I make dinner I stay near my stove from start to end...I can leave it but then I have nothing on my mind then….my stove.

When I have to take my eye drops I go straight into my kitchen and take one of my pipets and go thereafter directly to my bathroom….I do nothing else..
If my brain get occupied by something else….I totally forget my medicin.

You're not alone. I've always had a very good memory for long-ago things. I'm familiar with a lot of different aspects of history myself. I think that may be because I think about those things all the time. On the other hand I often can't remember what I came into this room for, or what I was doing five minutes ago. This isn't just about aging, as I've had it happening for most of my life.

I too have to be very careful with medications. Since my recent eye surgery I'm taking three different eyedrops four times per day. They have to be taken five minutes apart so the current one won't wash the last one out. I take them at set times, and if I forget I end up not taking any for several hours. More likely I'll take the first one, sit down at the computer and two hours later will suddenly remember the next one.

It drives you crazy sometimes.

Yea same here.
My longtime memory is not of this world. I can remember all way back to my own birth.

how does this help me, that I can remember what have been said by my mom, aunt and uncle when they where holding me on my way to be Baptist, when it is my shorttime memory I need.

That is a very clever title Markus.

Yea it is an age thing for me. Sometimes in the morning I find myself staring at the coffee maker and wondering why it's taking so long. Of course you have to turn it on.:D

:o

I can remember a couple of snippets of things I did at age seven, but before that is all a jumble.

:rotfl2:

That's a good one.

Long term memory still serves me well. But sometimes, which seems more often than I like to admit, I walk into a store and for the life of me I can't remember what the heck I was looking for. So I'll wander around until it comes back too me.

I know what you mean about forgetting why you enter a room. I believe in my case I'm thinking ahead about something else on the way there which drives out the older thought by the time I get there. Man, I almost forgot, uh.....

Hi Markus, yes it's just an age thing!! I blame it on technology, the young ones are up to it from early schooling but old fossils like me have a hard keeping up. My wife is having the same issues with work, she can't keep up with the change. We are stuck in the past with things like writing, arithmetic, calculators or slide rules, old wall phones, old TV's, old cars etc. Basically a whole different life style, I can't get my head around it all, I miss the old days and old ways. Problem is we are forced to change, even things like banking have changed, also changes to society itself!! So it is not surprising to find ourselves with memory loss, headaches etc, we can't cope with the ever changing world!!:oops:

But we can figure out what the change is on a purchase without a calculator.

My forgetter's getting better,
But my rememberer is broke
To you that may seem funny
But, to me, that is no joke

For when I'm 'here' I'm wondering
If I really should be 'there'
And, when I try to think it through,
I haven't got a prayer!

Oft times I walk into a room,
Say 'what am I here for?'
I wrack my brain, but all in vain!
A zero, is my score.

At times I put something away
Where it is safe, but, Gee!
The person it is safest from
Is, generally, me!

When shopping I may see someone,
Say 'Hi' and have a chat,
Then, when the person walks away
I ask myself, 'who on earth was that?

Yes, my forgetter's getting better
While my rememberer is broke,
And it's driving me plumb crazy
And that isn't any joke.

I have a pretty good long term memory going back to about the age of three in my estimation....the thing that lets me down is remembering peoples names. Just about every time I venture into town I'll come across someone I know and it can be a little embarrassing as they greet you by your christion name (usually) and you're often then compelled to say "I know you but sadly what is your name again"?

Aye but what about those who remind you of a conversation between both of you only a fortnight or so ago?

Simple trick: Just ask someone how they spell their name so you can get it right.

Well I tried that once and the guy looked at me and said "B O B"

Awkward.

My little sister who have studying psychology in his education and here mentor have said that I'm suffering from aspergers and autisme.

I do not doubt her and her mentor.

What I can't figure out is:

Have I developed it due to my bad short-time memory

or

is it this aspergers and autisme that have lead to my bad short time memory.

I'd like to claim it was all down to the early onset of Alzheimers but that would go down like a lead ballon when I consider my father-in-law succumbed to that at the early age of 59.
